It looks like someone beat you to it and dumped a bunch of stuff into the market lowering the prices.

I seriously doubt that, Ceren was running fast as well, and we were also using flashpoints to move back and forth at times. Razenth2009-07-28 00:27:43
Does anyone know exactly what governs targetting range. We seem to have issues targetting sometimes. Like a monster will be one room away but I can't target it, but other times I'll be able to target everything and their mother.
EDIT: There should be a skill that scans like, 2 spaces away from the ship and tells you every monster and its id number so we can target them.
EDIT2: Vortex karibideans, wtf. Are they new or something? I don't see how adding dragon like monsters to vortex siphons make aether hunting any fun.

I thought it was if you can see it, you can target it.

I'm 99% sure this was mentioned in one of the announce posts, and I'm certain it was discussed by the committee. Yes, there's a new creature in vortexes, yes, they're stronger than normal, and yes, they drain ships of power. They basically replaced being flung about for the lesser of two drain tactics, was my understanding. And you very rarely see them, from my understanding? This is the first time I've actually heard of anyone running into one!
Razenth2009-07-28 06:07:17
Yesterday we siphoned for over an hour, pulled in like 100 power, and didn't see a single one. Today, we ran into 3 in the space of about 20 minutes.

I like aetherspace. I do. But considering the investment you need to make (at LEAST one million gold) and then considering how much gold you can get out (oh joy, an hour, and I make about 10K? You're kidding, how stupendous) and then seeing the experiance, it really just doesn't seem to be enough, you could, instead, sink all that money into credits and bash for a LOT more experiance and a LOT more gold. Or am I doing something wrong?

comparing it to bashing.
Not every money/exp maker needs to be balanced. As for making gold in aetherspace that is depending on your crew, if you have 100% people on their respective modules then you are probably going to get gold quicker.
Kiradawea2009-07-28 14:27:24
Of course it should be compared to bashing. It's more expensive, more difficult, more dangerous and more frustrating, so of course the output should be better both money and xp-wise. If it ain't, people just won't bother with it.

More Expensive, yes it is. but those who bash claim to easily make 20k in an hour. So starting a ship is not going to take that long. Although getting a good ship, from just bashing, with all of the required modules (chair, grid, 3 turrets, collector (not really required, but probably should have), hold) is going to take a while.
More difficult I would argue, I find aetherspace much easier than bashing.

It's certainly more unique, interactive, and dare I say..... fun? Bashing, by comparison, is dull, mindless and boring.

Now, assuming those people are making 20K each and that they have a reasonably full crew, one pilot, empath, three turrets, no collector, then they're actually making 100K per hour, right? I don't see how, am I missing a big area with one hit kills that drop several tons?
Or do the owners of the ship just not share the gold?
As another question, how big a ship should you be to actually take on dragons? They seem to be quick, so not Deepnight size, but big enough to at least take ONE hit, no?
Shiri2009-07-28 16:19:12
Apparently skillsets are ok to be posted now, just so that's clear!

Kundu's ship is 1800 health (16 rooms), his ship can take on dragons (if you have three people on turrets and a good pilot)

the empaths are the ones who get the gold first as it goes to their inv when they buy. but in general, just do hour of hunting things and find a ship that buys at small amounts and sells for high. When I go with Kundu to hunt (and sell dust) we get about 25k in just under an hour hunting prime creatures that give about .4 tons

I haven't been out in quite a while (since before the changes), but when Ilaveuse, Pelas and I started taking Hearth out regularly (2200-health-ish), we would net about 25-30,000 gold an hour, to be split between the five or six people we had.

Which is... kinda pathetic, when you compare it to ratting

What are the proficiencies of your crew?
Lawliet2009-07-28 22:14:45
I think the ones on the turrets had at least 50%, I didn't ask. Oh, the about 10K was me, not the entire group.
Eventru2009-07-28 22:45:24
One thing I would also consider (though it may be negligible), in aetherspace hunting you are not spending the money on any of your usual bashing equipment - herbs, potions, scrolls, etc. It's also a very low cost of entry where level does not affect what you can hunt, but instead requires a ship (and most city/communes, if not all, have at least one fairly large aethership that can be used for hunting).

On the other hand, dying in Aetherspace: If one screws up, they all die.
