Personally I pronounce it similar to the "tae" in "taekwondo" (both the "tae" and the "dae")
Shiri2010-07-08 10:22:26
People probably pronounce that wrong though, no one knows anything about Korean.

@Rika: not the way I learnt it when I did tae kwon-do! (though I could be the one that's wrong here instead of you)
Rika2010-07-08 10:28:56
Isn't "tae" in Korean more like "tay" than "tie"?

When in game, I just assume everyone is pronouncing everything correctly, names included. This works most of the time unless some weirdo with an 'accent' comes along and tries to say my character's name phonetically

This is the sort of situation where an OOC tell of "((Hey, just so you know, it's not personal.)) Would come in handy.

I don't know. I agree with you that, when things get intense, an OOC note just to make sure the other person knows everything is ok is a really good idea, and in Old Skool Glom (OSG), I used that tack, myself.

But the above exchange seems kind of mild to me. If someone got -that- upset over the stuff in that log, they probably would have quit Mag sooner or later over something else.

Don't get me wrong - I'm 100% behind the idea of an OOC note if things are pretty heated, but I also wouldn't want to take the teeth out of Mag RP by sending an OOC tell after every situation that could be taken as terse rudeness. I guess I'm too sympathetic with the OSMs. wink.gif

I pronounce it 'tay-day' for some reason

Pretty sure that's how it is intended, so you sound like you're almost saying "Teddy".

C'mon people, must other race names feature a gimmick like that. How can you not notice? tongue.gif

(Celest): Rinada says, "Could anybody show me to jeremiah gryphta?"

(Celest): Xedrik says, "Sure."

(Celest): You say, "Which part of Jeremiah would you like to see?"

Postulant Xedrik Vivalde, Seer of the Light says, "Uh, arin."

(Celest): Rinada says, "The dingbat shop."

You snigger evilly.

Grandmaster Eldanien Silmet says, "His dingbats."

Postulant Xedrik Vivalde, Seer of the Light says, "You're evil."

Nope!

I feel kind of bad for making fun of Thoros for reading "underfed" as "un-derfed" now.

I actually read that as "un-derfed" too for a second before I caught myself. It looks too much like a form of "nerfed"!

Chief Superintendent Ushaara, of the Sentinel Company says, "You should see the file I have on the Skyplumes."

Ushaara nods his head sagely.

You say, "You have a file?"

Utterly entranced, you emit a long "Ooooh."

You say, "What does it say about us."

Chief Superintendent Ushaara, of the Sentinel Company says, "Indeed, we monitor all citizens."

Your eyes sparkle with amusement.

You say, "What's it say."

Chief Superintendent Ushaara, of the Sentinel Company says, "I'm afraid that information is classified."

"Awwwww!" you say.

You say, "But you said I should see it!"

Chief Superintendent Ushaara, of the Sentinel Company says, "It is good that all citizens maintain a heightened state of paranoia."

You stumble forward clumsily before throwing your hands up and screaming "Noooooooo!" melodramatically.

No, I do the same inside my own head — probably because that's the way common real-life counterparts are pronounced (Tae Kwon Do and Daedalus, for example).

Still, it's always been obvious to me that "Tae'dae" is a play on "teddy."
