QUOTE
Air Neophyte Lulah says to Mirai, "What's that?"

Mirai Skyplume says, "What's what?"

Air Neophyte Lulah says, "What you are doing."

Lulah tilts her head curiously.

Mirai Skyplume says, "I'm telling the guards that I think highly of them."

Mirai Skyplume says, "And it empowers them."

Mirai Skyplume says, "It's a type of influence battle."

Air Neophyte Lulah says, "Ohh."

Air Neophyte Lulah says, "I see."

Mirai Skyplume says, "You can empower denizens and it makes them a little
stronger."

Mirai Skyplume says, "And gives you esteem."

Air Neophyte Lulah says to a Guardian of the Dodecahedron, "I think you're
pretty."

You give a trillingly melodic laugh.

Mirai Skyplume says, "And experience."

Lulah tilts her head curiously at a Guardian of the Dodecahedron.

Mirai giggles happily at Lulah.

QUOTE
Connoisseur Yiila says to you, "Speaking as one young lady to another."

You give a trillingly melodic laugh.

It is now the 9th of Vestian, 274 years after the Coming of Estarra.

Connoisseur Yiila says to you, "That Malarious is quite well equipped."

A cherubic smile comes over Yiila as he gazes around, wide-eyed and innocent.

stop it Yiila! I'm dying over here! roflmao.gif

QUOTE (Lendren @ Aug 16 2010, 12:52 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
*envy* I've been wishing Giallyn would chirp on the Spiritsingers channel since I got her! She does the guild emote (a modified version) and we've been joking that she should count towards guild rites. Most of the guild always tells me they consider her a member. Envy envy envy.

I can see it now

(Spiritsingers): Lendren says, "I sure wish Giallyn could talk on the guild aether."

(Spiritsingers): Giallyn, a humble song sparrow says, "Meow."

(Spiritsingers): Lendren says, "....."

(Spiritsingers): Lendren says, "Just go back to not talking, Giallyn."
Yiila2010-08-17 00:44:22
Waaaaay out of context!
Lendren2010-08-17 00:46:26
Hahahahah.

But I would never do ".....".

Yeah that part struck me as quite un-Lendren-like. I hate when people say "..." on any aether, in says, and especially in yells or shouts.
Nariah2010-08-17 01:38:25
Me too! The emote NOTHING is there for a reason!

Oh I actually didn't know that emote exists. Nifty.

It's a commonly used habit in the RPG franchise, especially during dialogue where a character is sort of baffled or doesn't know what to say. Though not to say it has a place in Lusternia.

I never understood why people had such a problem with it, especially since I thought it was universally known for being baffled or speechless without saying as such.
Unknown2010-08-17 02:20:17
Even if dozens of video games use "..." to convey speechlessness, that doesn't make it proper grammar. You have words. You have emotes. Use them, please.

Because on an aether, the sound of someone saying ... is precisely the same as the sound of someone not saying anything. How can I tell from halfway across the world that you're not just not saying anything, but pointedly not saying anything? It's actually worse than the widely-reviled idea of
(YourGuild): Somebody says, "*romp*"
and for pretty much exactly the same reason.

That makes sense, and is understandable for aethers. I guess its because of the fact I've used the "..." (in wow and such) a lot that I've just accept it and let it go.

@Iamos: While yea, we have emotes and whatnot sometimes your brain just isn't able to process correctly and goes to a default which for several is the dreaded "..."

Wow, so much anger over something nobody actually said
Yiila2010-08-17 02:39:48
Hahahahahaha... zing Arix.
Lendren2010-08-17 02:40:18
I don't see any anger here. Heck, there's barely even sauciness.

True. Although I do like the ellipses as part of a well-executed What? as per the following example:

...what?

Cupping your hands before you, they fill with water and an image forms within of Reiha at ACQUISITIO OFF, ACQUISITIO OFF, ACQUISITIO OFF! (the Aetherways).

Nice. Subtle. Love it.
