Remember that your physical location affects your speed, too. I'm getting about 63ish as my ping speed, and I'm running two very large torrent downloads at the moment (each several gigabytes, and running at a download around 90kb/s together). So I'm really thinking it's your side - or, more specifically, not the server. You should run a traceroute and see if there's anywhere it jumps particularly (above.net used to be a big problem for some people).

I have an obnoxiously fast (15 ms) ping to lusternia.com, but I don't live too far from the server (200 miles according to Google Maps), so that's probably affecting it. I still have lag spikes occasionally, but it isn't too bad.
Vathael2009-08-10 00:35:11
I'm not sure of the locations of all the IRE servers or if they are all located in the same area but I just logged onto Aetolia and it runs just fine for me.

I closed my client, sadly, but nothing in the network will ever cause the output to go in the order of...
You beg from a monk
Monk says, "What am I supposed to think of that?"
You have recovered equilibrium
...except server issues or low charisma, and I run around with 17 charisma.
EDIT: And this is something that only occurs during lag spikes.

Hey guys,
As far as ping being a problem, I'm showing pretty constant 85ms from my end on the east coast. This is the kind of issue that I can't do much to solve if it's simply ping alone - that's more an issue of path to the server, which gateways, etc.
I'll be rebooting the game tonight. If there are any slowdowns caused by a particular sort of issue, it will be fixed by that.
I'm also checking to see what's eating up game CPU time in the next few hours. Let us know if it's around any specific time/situation that you notice.
IF you notice "lag" during combat, make sure it's not client-caused. Thanks!

My issue has been consistent for the past couple of days and that's the reason why I haven't really been around all weekend long.
Unknown2009-08-10 01:11:38
Eh today during a lag spike I actually lost momentum in between forms while bashing... and I use the auto kata chain so it wasn't even anything from my side.

Torrents are bad, I almost got sued for stupid amounts of money last year due to them and my own stupidity.
Kante2009-08-10 01:54:20
I trashed my old computer with a trojan and virus I got from a torrent.
It destroyed a hard drive, the cd-rom, and the mobo.

214 ms here *envy* Although some Asians and Australians probably have much worse.
No unusual lag that I've noticed, though.

Vey, what was up with the logging out then?
Veyrzhul2009-08-10 02:56:16
That was pretty much a one (or, in that case, two) time issue, nothing problematic or extraordinary.

It is your side. Denizens are retorting before influence eq recovery fairly regularly.
EDIT: Although it's possible that it's not lag so much as it is a failure of a timing script somewhere.

Pretty sure it is not script problems.
I influence triggered off of eq recovery (19 cha). Every 1/3 influences roughly gets a retort. I think it is server side somehow
Zallafar2009-08-10 05:08:19
I have had more lag lately myself. However, I have also noticed that when I'm having bad lag (the worst was about a minute!) other people aren't. And vice versa, other people lag when I'm doing just fine. Suggesting it's not the server.

The only times I've seen any major lag, beyond an occasional couple of seconds, I think it was client-side. When fighting an orc elder, it gave me stupidity, which made me fall asleep. I think Treant failed to get the pennyroyal (I yelled "I like cheese!" instead), so it was spamming both STAND and FOCUS MIND. It went absolutely crazy and crashed MUSHclient, twice. Everything else seemed about normal, though.
Tervic2009-08-10 05:15:03
Hey, think of it this way, it's good choke practice.
.....Right?

What if you get choked while lagging?
