Mine is fine too, but I do know the spikes you folks are talking about, I at first thought it was Ethelon's system, but I then tested in the arena with a bunch of grapple katas, 11 and paused right in the middle with no system on at all.
Definately something hiccuping somewhere.

The lag is intermittent enough that a short ping check shouldn't and won't find the issue. A larger sample base would be required.
I suspect it is one of the jumps people on the East coast are having to make to t get to the servers.
Unknown2009-08-10 05:56:19
Just had a 2 second lag spike doing nothing but sitting at the Pool, although I do notice that sometimes it lags when I enter a command
I have no lag on charune's private server, maybe it's a different jump? Or I haven't experienced it yet.

My server is located on the east coast, so the jump might be much better for those of you on the east coast.

It's a jump because your server is perfect.

For those who are still experiencing lag spikes, or similar, please perform a traceroute to the Lusternia server.
Its the same as performing a ping except that you use the tracert command instead of ping. So..
tracert www.lusternia.com
Anything with suspicious high latency times would probably be the culprit.

My traceroutes for Achaea and Lusternia are identical (with the exception of the endpoint, obviously). Achaea doesn't have these same lag spikes, and they are definitely server-side; everything stops, rather than just the communication between my PC and your servers.
My money would be on server backups, if I had to guess, but it's not a client-side or routing issue.

I've no evidence to display because I wasn't logging ping and tracert's two months ago, but it seems to me that this stuff has started fairly recently, probably in the last month or so. Before that, I don't really remember noticing the big hang spikes and general wonkiness that I'm taking note of now. I'm in Germany, so I ALWAYS have a higher ping then a lot of people, but my connection has always been super stable here and it's quick. I should experience more or less the same level of ping on average, but I certainly have taken note of several weird hangs almost daily for the last few weeks at least.
I know that during toys it seemed to hang for a little as the toys were about to be/being released, so I figured that was server load maybe, but there were times before the toy event and still now.
I constantly hope that it's Isune causing havoc with creating her god realm, but I know in my heart that's not true.

I did notice a little while ago, whilst I was defiling a shrine, that EVERY time I went to defile in a room that wouldn't allow it, I would get like 5-8 seconds of lag from the time I entered the command to it actually telling me that I couldn't do it there. Not sure how relevant that is.

Server backup lag has this pattern - a few second lag followed by another half-second lag a second later, only occurring once an hour or so. There is not a continuous lag with it. The reboot would have fixed it, anyhow.

Before the Master Ravenwood Tree. (Glomdoring Forest.)
The bright sun shines down, blanketing you with its life-giving warmth. The dark heart of Glomdoring Forest is almost audibly beating in this, its shadowy centre. Tall, blackened trees surround this clearing, pressing together into an imposing barrier of rotten vegetation. Moulds and fungi are smeared across the plants, their pungent stench suffusing the forest. The branches are coated in dark slime, slick tendrils that hang downwards. Although a variety of trees might actually grow here, the black tar that coats them renders them indistinguishable. A thin black mist creeps between the trees, hanging low across the ground. The floor of the clearing itself is simply bare earth, cracked and dry. Overshadowing all is the Master Ravenwood Tree itself, jutting into the sky like a twisted fist. The sound of laughing crows echoes down from the treetops, a harsh sound for the ears below. The atmosphere vibrates with a palpable power. Brennan Stormcrow paces here, his cadaverous body twitching with sudden jerks. An animated skeleton stands here with a ghostly outline of a bat around its skull. An animated skeleton stands here with a ghostly outline of a spider around its skull. An animated skeleton stands here with a ghostly outline of a beetle around its skull. An animated skeleton stands here with a ghostly outline of a wasp around its skull. The Master Ravenwood Tree towers over everything here, pulsing with an immeasurable yet dark power. A mature blackthorn tree stands proudly here. Casting darkness all around, a shadow totem thrusts up from the ground, chilling the air. There are 2 black direwolves here. There are 10 dark nighthags here. His sinister red eyes constantly moving about the area, a shadowlord pauses here. Covered in bone armour, a giant bat hangs here, wings folded about its body and one beady eye open. There are 2 illithoid scourges here. Nekai at the ready, an illithoid shade stands guard here. Covered in bone armour, a green eyelash viper is slithering about here. In the shape of an open palm, a metallic sigil lies here.
Do you have wrapwidth 0 on? Looking with that causes a lot of lag.

I have no theories on what could be causing the lag, but I have noticed a definite change in the server-side responses in the last couple weeks. It's most noticeable in the influencing, as I never used to get flustered and now it happens regularly. My end is still the same as it was before this lag was noticeable, and it doesn't matter if I'm playing from work or from home.

reading through others tracert and comparing it to my own, i notice a lot of slowdowns when people run through the gni and xo.net. i wonder if it would have anything to do with the lusternia server isp?
