With city/commune enemy status, it's definitely a bad idea.
Basically, there are two reasons people are enemied.
A: Being an annoyance, and
B: Being a security threat.
If it's A, you don't want them around anyway and will likely re-enemy when they turn up, and if they're serious about getting unenemied the fine will likely be minor. If it's B, you want them enemied all the time, and it will just make a headache for leaders (probably the Ambassador) to re-enemy everyone. If they're unenemied they might ninja-raid, or let people in for a raid (this means this should also not apply to things like Nil, Celestia, Moon and Night).

I'm noticing that the primary rejection point is that it would be more work, but the work isn't getting done either way(Exept by Seren, crazy buggers!). Why WOULD someone that hasn't bothered you for 10-20 years still show up on the enemy chart? If they're such a major offender that they would be, remembering to refresh the enemy status wouldn't be too hard, and if they aren't, well then you don't have to worry about refreshing it, the status has become little more then a tag in an unneccecarialy large database.

10-20 years is not that long of a time.
I'm thinking more like 100 year time limit.

Another idea, would be to have the game remove all players that are tagged inactive.

They flaw I see with the enemy process is that there is no checks and balances in place.
Joe Smoe security fellow from x guild can get pissed at Bob Smith for doing Y and just enemy him, without or with a lame comment with impunity, nobody checks on them or even gets alerted to it unless they read the city/guild log.
But when it comes to being unenemied you have to normally talk to the ambassador, then the guild leaders of all the guilds for said city, then the king/queen, then they make you wait however long that takes.
THEN, they all demand gold, nothing about promises to recitfy your behavior, no grace of innocence that you're gonna be cool, it's just all gold.
It's bad enough that I go and kill one Merian four RL years ago and I have to pay an IG sum of 40 some k gold to that Marinus just for me to say "We're cool now cause you paid me chump." But when I have to do that to Cities it's just total and utter .
There needs to be other alternative ways to getting unenemied besides causing me to go out my pocket or beg/borrow/steal to pay off x guild or y city cause they want to use enemies to raise the coins, or worse yet credit market sell credits just to get 50k to pay off McDouche the ambassador.
It takes one infinitely small act to cause a whole pain in the ass, and it shouldn't be so.
Stop being greedy Pieces of Junk and find other ways to make money then bilking the playerbase. Yeah I'm talking to you city/commune/guild leaders.

Nope.
I actually tend to be fairly unorthodox and just make up a fine on the spot.

Yeah, me too. Normally it involves putting power into the nexus/some random gold fine/empowering demons/killing someone. When Narsrim tried to join the city, at first I almost tried to get him to raise the TBC for us, but realized he couldn't as a rogue.
Shaddus2009-08-12 01:16:27
What I WOULD like is a hardcoded way to 1. know what reason you were enemied, IE what is show on the logs, and 2. A way to dispute it through some sort of arbitration through a third party.
You wake up, and get this message:
You should be able to say hey, I don't think I should have been enemied to Fain just because Thoros wants to hit me with aura on raids (granted, Fain doesn't care. )
You get my idea, somewhat.

Enemying vs Unenemying has always been unbalanced, and became more so when everyone was allowed to enemy for everything. Nothing will change that.

Yep, that's how I got enemied to Fain and Morgfyre, and both of those were the highest fines I had to pay of everyone.
Boo. Hiss.

They already change it, in the opposite direction however.

What? Everyone was always allowed to enemy for everything.

I really hate this idea myself, in every incarnation. Things are fine as is!

I really like the idea, as seeing, if you constantly do things over and over again you would build up a long long time. That aside being on the recieving side of lol bs enemies Hugging rika and then saving a novice from a statue in celest. Shaddus branding me for being in a manse etc. I can see it's uses.
