I'd agree monks are broken(Not as badly as some people make it out to be.), particularly Nekotai and I guess Shofangi as well, but broken or not none of this is an instant win function against anyone that's a decent combatant with good curing. Is it too much for some classes/people to handle sure, that's why Charune is working to fix them properly.
I digress though, people are going to boohoo and cry to mommy about something. If it's not monks it'll be something else, and if nothing else new is around to complain about there's always the old classic Night Choke for everyone to fall back on.

Clearly you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
That's exactly what it is. (Especially the tahtetso insta) An instant win. Jesus Christo, what's more amazing than how broken monks are is how many people say they aren't that broken.
The "people are always going to cry" puddle of regurgitated vomit is getting so old. It's as if you forget that a huge portion of this game is centralized around combat, and issues will always exist in a complex system. It's called seeking balance, not "boohooing."

The thing is, some monks don't even take the time to figure out how to make their skills work. It's funny, really.

Oh I know. Asmoth and his "damage katas." What.

If the only way you win is due to bad curing on your target's part, you aren't using your (broken) skills to their full effect. Believe me.

I think I'm going to try out monk.

Unknown2009-08-12 05:24:51
I am fairly happy with the monk changes, although I will miss being OP, I am glad now that other monks (especially tahtetso) will have to actually DO something for their skills, besides lolseveredspinecrackechest game.
I don't agree with tahtai though, or at least the power cost

Vathael2009-08-12 11:09:14
i think monks deserve any nerfs they get.
even if its lik you punch your target so hard you break your own arm or something. i want to see monks hit rebounding more too when they miss a raze cause they cant raze in every combo. lolmangle your own leg.

Moiraine2009-08-12 19:01:40
Wait, what? They're adding a power cost for raze?

Vathael2009-08-12 19:45:27
yea, 3p per raze. use it wisely.
Celina2009-08-12 19:47:17
ahahaha, awesome.
Nerf monks into the dirt.
Nerf monks into the dirt.
Ilyarin2009-08-12 19:51:00
Heh I don't think it's quite like that *squint*
Ardmore2009-08-12 19:51:38
I'm sure it's much different than you make it seem, maybe 3 power to use it in an entire form, but they'll always be able to use the actual 'Raze' skill, like warriors have.
Ilyarin2009-08-12 19:56:14
The issue with using raze as an action rather than a mod is 1) they give up one third of their attacks, 2) it only razes one level (ie rebounding or shield, not both) and 3) you have to decide where in your kata string you're going to raze and where you think you'll be okay, since you can't as easily change on the fly.
Ardmore2009-08-12 19:57:28
That's why you don't string attacks together.
Damadreas2009-08-12 20:22:53
Yes, lets go to one extreme to the other! That'll be productive.

Didn't you hear? Monks will only be balanced when they can't attack at all without using power.
Damadreas2009-08-12 20:40:28
That's ok, it'll just mean more artied bonecrushers until they nerf that in the long run. Heh.
Vathael2009-08-12 20:42:26
im not sure if any of you whiney monks have ever played anything besides that but just for reference, during the last wildnodes where ceren narsrim and i won it i went through 150% reserves and that is no stretch of the truth. unlike monk, classes that require effort to kill also require a lot of power usage.
Vathael2009-08-12 20:45:20
also the 3p was a lie so i could hear some crying.
Esano2009-08-12 20:55:04
You'll still have access to the kata raze skill. You won't have access to the current raze mods. You will instead get a lunge-style modifier that costs 3p.
