Did that on Nexus... it's not terribly hard, and it works!

2) This is another reason to trade some of the experience for different bonuses. Make it analagous to regular bashing, but crew members get passive energy reserve regeneration, gain special buffs over time(spend an hour in the aether, get a one hour resistance to insanity buff, or something similarly unique), whatever can be explained by basking in the unformed energies of the cosmos.
Please, please, please, no...
I don't use energy reserves enough to matter, I can't bash astral, I can't think of anything that would appeal to both a circle 40 and a demigod.
60% reduction is about right, having gone bashing again. 50% of what everybody is getting will still be decent XP, just not over-the-top.

Cut by around 60%? As in, making things only 40% of the experience they are now? I think that's a bit too much. Something more in the range of cutting by 30-40% probably...
To give people an idea, I'm level 86, was siphoning on a ship bashing prime aether beasts. Was getting .07% per kill, but we were killing fairly slowly (as in, much slower than I could bash, even if I weren't a monk)

You're doing it wrong if you're bashing prime.
Moiraine2009-08-21 23:53:35
Uh. So you would support a drastic reduction in experience, but not support replacing it with non-experience bonuses that half the playerbase would love to have because you personally wouldn't use those bonuses? Hokay.
Daganev2009-08-21 23:58:52
Is what people are implying here true or is this some missinformation?
Mainly, if you are level 20, each beast you kill is worth X %
If you are level 80 it is also worth X % and if you are level 98 it is also worth x%?
If that is true, that seems like the problem.
How to fix that and still make the area desirable and fair seems like a bit tough to solve though.

Yes, I'm saying that what we have right now is OP, and needs reduction, not replacement, and one of the things I like most about aetherspace is that there's no difference between the level 29 with seven lessons and the level 89 with 7 lessons.
This is not about changing aetherspace experience to something else, it's about reducing it, because it's overpowered. We're not talking about adding a buff to cancel the XP gain, we're talking about reducing the XP gain, with no other changes. Will I still use aetherspace, regardless of what the changes are? Yes, it's a great way to meet new players/characters and interact with friends. Will the people who are striving for demigod in a month use it? Probably not. That's what we're trying to get to (As I see it).
EDIT: A 60% reduction would still make aetherspace better XP than influencing guards for the same amount of time, with a full crew.
Moiraine2009-08-22 00:26:41
I was talking about reducing the experience down to a level with regular bashing, though. If sixty percent isn't enough to do that, then I'm calling for more. To offset the fact that aetherbashing has a high entry cost, non-experience/gold rewards would then be appropriate and, in my opinion, a better way to go about it.
Unknown2009-08-22 01:25:09
Considering the mechanics of aetherhunting, I don't think there's really a way we can make it something competitive with bashing.
Either they give the same experience, and everyone goes and automates their aetherhunting, or you make it lower than normal bashing, in which case no one cares about it anymore.
I vote for changes in mechanics instead of pure experience rate change.

For all the awesomeness this experience is to the higher-level players, many have mentioned that it's an absolutely great way to buff novices up. Except nobody is going to take a novice. Ever. In fact, the whole 'Novices Don't Exist' syndrome seems to be peaking lately. Half of my alts guild/commune/city population is offplane, out aetherhunting. Any that come back totally ignore questions while they sit there droning on CT about seeking a replacement crew.
Nobody will take a novice due to Aethercraft skill requirement and aptitude. In fact, if a novice mentions they can siphon/turret/empath/etc they rarely ever get a tell response, just another CT message about seeking crew as if it never happened.

Dude, I totally take nubs up when I pilot. If they're part of my guild, I even give them credits.
Now, when I'm not organizing the hunt, I have no idea.

Time: 3:31 AM EXP: 52.29%
Aetherbashing trip
Time: 3:36 AM EXP: 54.37%
Time: 3:38 AM EXP: 56.05%
Time: 3:43 AM EXP: 58.14%
Stats: lv 91 Human w/ Harmony Domoth and karma blessing. Full crew, mostly at Mythical rank? Something like that. I had 50% proficiency. Killing Forestal Gargantuans, whatever those are.
Point: This is a rate of XP gain only dreamed about by most people. 6% in 12 minutes is just silly, at lv91. I'm too tired to be more coherent.
EDIT: I'll post correlational numbers for a 12 minute solo trip to Astral tomorrow or something. Maybe.

What is with this flipping between busted out the arse and completely worthless? No wonder I got overtaken in rankings by like 8 people in the last couple days.
Unknown2009-08-22 15:24:14
Ilyarin moved up like 35-40 ranks in the demi range since this started. How much essence is that?
So much for being an "option", when it outpaces everything and anything else by a huge margin.
I never liked aetherspace much before due to the concept, but now that I absolutely loathe it since the rewards feel too ridiculous to ignore.

Oh God, Shiribot is upset, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES, THE INTERWEBS ARE GOING TO MELT!
EDIT: Forgot my relevant point - it might be a good idea to temporarily reinstate the old XP formulas while the new ones are being worked out before we end up with a ton of Demis.

Let me fix that.
"before we end up with many many more demis, further hindering Lusternian combat growth."
We'll likely have over 100 total in the next year..

35-40 ranks...well, a lot of people join the Revan brigade and cluster in the first 4-5M, but I'm at 22ish position now and that's in the early 20Ms of essence. Figure it out from there. I sure hope it's not just one org grabbing millions of free XPs from this (looking at you Serenwilde, I better see some free demis when I get back more actively!)
And while I'm raging, what is with Everiine stealing my badger avatar? Get out of it.

Orca != badger, even with an overactive imagination.
