Back on topic!
If aethermobs get a damage fix, it would make sense that while the turrets are firing, the ship speed slows down enough for you to get hit every now and then. That way, your hull and empath actually matters.
And! If you're just travelling, you won't be affected.

On a separate, but relevant, tangent:
I noticed most of the people gaining what is considered 'ridiculous' exp are humans. Add to that the fact that humans have the racial harmony blessing, and I think it's fair to say they skew results a bit. Their boost is also quite substantial here given there is absolutely no disadvantages or advantages to being a certain race in aetherspace.
Solution - nullify human exp racial bonus in aetherspace.

HAHA, are you kidding? That is the only benefit of humans?
Shiri2009-08-23 04:57:10
Except the part where it works everywhere other than aetherspace as well.
Anyway, Ragniliff may have a point, although since it's not that massive aetherspace itself will need fixing too.

Aetherspace has always been somewhat of a trial. I mean, it is a completely new aspect of the game. Of course its gonna have kinks. It has been around for over a year, but the problem is that people haven't been coming up with any good ideas to fix it. No one has really been playing it when they made experience really low. The only time people used it was during constructs, so now that constructs are gone, the experience is making up for it. Maybe they need to throw in something else -similiar- to constructs to give an alternative goal? Like rescue missions that you receive on distress signals on the empath module? This could be like quests?
Aetherspace experience is upped because they are wanting us up here probing it!

Apart from amazing stats with no disadvantages at high levels? And retaining that exp boost long after you don't really need it for any sort of compensation? AND keeping it under circumstances where race makes no difference whatsoever for every other race in the game?
Absolutely not kidding. Humans do not need that boost if an exp source this strong, that is entirely based on aptitude of one skill and no stats whatsoever, is going to remain largely as it is.
I'm playing human right now. There's definitely a difference, and it's definitely distinct. And it's definitely unwarranted.

I wonder if that wouldn't be almost a complete fix, actually. Removing all of my experience bonuses during aetherspace would decrease my exp income by about 40%. That's well on the way to the "nerf" we were talking about. Maybe it's not that bad, after all.
Razenth2009-08-23 09:00:10
I hear a nerf went in, 20% cut across the board....

Yes. It may need some more tweaking.

That go in just before the weave yesterday?

Eh, so long as it's worth the effort to get a crew, built and outfit an appropriate aethership (with the massive resource outlay involved), invest in the appropriate skills, and then find the time to make it worthwhile.
Which, all in all, is a bit tougher and far more expensive than grabbing a sharpened piece of metal, getting to astral in planar, and typing "swing bull". Or for that matter, zoning out at a nexus while telling a pile of denizens how awesome you think they are.
So, it should be better than other forms of bashing- because the investment is much, much higher. How much better? Enough that new people starting out would be inspired to eventually work on building an aethership (but don't feel that they have to). Honestly, if this is done right, it could be a terrific gold sink and a great new facet to get people to buy credits (as opposed to the arguably already overburnened "normal combat" requirements).

I full support this statement.

I just did all of 98-99 in a day after the cut, because I'm human I'm making 0.03% per Gargantuan kill, which is the same as Jozen was making as a Viscanti before the cut. I expect Demigod by Tuesday at the latest.
The only pain is, Karibideans are now spawning MUCH more often, this isn't an issue because they're worth more EXP but you can't TURRET TARGET CREATURE KARIBIDEAN which is a pain in the ass, you have to use the ####. Fix please?

Why would we fix something to make aetherhunting -easier- when we're trying to accomplish the opposite? Just use the numbers, for goodness sakes. You're already getting godly experience.

Because it's a bug? There's no way to get the number without letting them get into the room, and you can target a number of aetherbeasts by name. Just, some of them you cannot.
It should either be one way or the other, and the empath should be able to use the grid to get the ids of aetherbeasts within a certain radius (and then report them).
Everiine2009-08-23 21:38:10
Wow. I guess even with the cut in XP, it's still ridiculously easy since for someone who knows what they are doing, there's little to no risk involved. It will just take a little longer. Maybe something -does- need to be done to increase the risk. I mean, even Thoros dies on Astral from time to time.

When this is done, you're also going to have to make it so that the things despawn on their own after a while. There are hundreds and hundreds of forestal gargantuans in the Faethorn area due to rampant oversiphoning. They've been there since last night.
Hundreds of forestals with ranged attacks == instadeath to any ship!
