The power is there, it's just whether or not you choose to grossly abuse your station I suppose.
Spot on.
The admin have a huge number of tools (or 'weapons') at their disposal. The question is whether or not they choose to use them in pursuit of their IC agenda. Some do.

Fain does like to use suprise and fear. And a fanatical devotion to the pope.
Nariah2009-08-21 16:38:40
You forgot about the ruthless efficiency that nobody expects!

On my own, I have very limited control. I can only bully so far before a player pushes IC to one side and says - no, this is a game. And stfu.
Lol, that's a total Asmoth vs. Eventru.
EDIT: Truth be told, a God can get away with a far more than he or she thinks they can, because usually the playerbase will subject themselves to the God's whim. Example: Eventru's harem of girls.

Lets rename this thread properly.
We Bash Eventru thread, why disguise it?
That being said my only issue with anything I've seen from Eventru comes to the harem situation and that sort of stuff. For him as a player and IRE/Lusternia that whole thing was a very touchy, dangerous situation. Or it could be at least.
All it takes is one overprotective parent and one kid under the age of 18 for that situation to have turned incredibly bad.
Eventru2009-08-21 21:25:31
Wait wait, Eventru has a harem?
Sweeeet. Jealous yet, Fain?

So you're saying he's like herpes?

Shaddus is like...herpes and glitter somehow combined into one thing.
I bet I still have glitter somewhere on my ass from sitting in some in a chair five years ago.

So far the points have been leaning towards the implied "respect" (or fear) that players have towards Divines. Dissent even sometimes in the mildest forms leads to undesirable consequences. I agree wtih Estarra and others that if you go toe to toe with a Divine you will lose.
However, is it not possible to sometimes dissent without being thrashed? I am just too scared to try with Jozen. Not that Jozen has much reason to do so at the moment. But if it were to arise...

Well, the question should be why are you afraid to go against the divine with Jozen? Does the player base generally see the repercussion from going against divine so severe that it is unwise to do so even if the actions of the divine are questionable?

I'll tell you this much.
Whoever pointed out that a lot of players won't go against Gods because of their administrative abilities...I agree. This inspires a lot of reluctance to stand up to the Gods.
That said, players need to realize that Gods are not Administrators. They're roleplay devices. If you tick off a God and they do much more than zap you or talk your leaders into booting you, then in all likelihood you're experiencing an abuse of power that needs to be reported. (situations of consensual abuse do not count, and are really funny)
IRE has had a long history of Gods abusing their positions in various ways, from the serious to the ridiculous. Don't let some abusive jerk steamroll over you just because you're a 'mortal'.

This is a non-trivial risk.

Sure, but it's not an abuse, it's not something you can't fight, and it doesn't involve their wtfpwnpowers. Beyond powers of persuasion, anyway.

You are underestimating the ability a god inherently has that allows them to pick one person, then :censor: with said person and have every citizen who isn't fond of that person turn against them. That is hard to combat, I hate Eventru with a passion, but the abusive fellow has already made it clear that he will get me kicked out of Celest if I don't play his little game the way he wants it.
