The current changes were the result of enough complaints and were literally months in the making. You will be hard pressed to find much sympathy because you lost your easy button. Lolmonks with op newbpk had to go.
Lorick2009-08-27 18:36:28
The last edition of monks was a creation of the admins and a select small group of players. The current edition? Same thing. General population has always had a minor role to play in any of the changes and is most likely the reason why some of the obviously ill planned concepts left the floor ((Stuns from the first, rapid regeneration afflictions from the second)). So, you will have to understand my disbelief if you feel you somehow "nerfed" a class because of complaining.

Secondly? It wasn't really a nerf. Monks can be just as bad, it just requires a bit of proper timing. If anything, I would argue the changes will lead to stronger monk fighters (system wise. It will require more coding, which means more work, meaning serious fighters will have more invested). The current changes highly value the stacking of conditions to achieve multiple afflictions in a single form. Should be seeing more of that.

To be honest, it seems like a majority of your complaint Llandros is directed at the tactics I advertised for changes on, rather than the kata system itself. Unless, you are claiming you lost to a newbie _because_ of prebuilding on their part. Because that would sound like an issue elsewhere.

None of this needed to have anything to do with making monks more similar to warriors, though obviously it did. That it did is due to a different lack of perspective altogether.

@Lorick: this was the rewrite, so it won't be getting any more seperate from here out. Smaller balancing underpowered/overpowered issues can still be looked at but if anything spiritsinger-like is coming out of this it'll be harmony.

EDIT: in before A) people attempt to straw man completely different issues, and cool.gif synl gloats about the scorpion caverns DAMN YOU SYNLLLLL

I don't know what RNG stands for, but your concept of the term work is probably skewd.

Nekokitties don't have to pray to the Random Number god. And it is work for an unartied trill bookbinder.

Charune had his server open for a long time, and announced it. Changes were open for review there, bugs and suggestions could be sent to Charune. If you didn't take advantage of this, you cannot complain about having a "minor role".

Two means waiting for herb balance once to cure both before you can stand if prone or attack for most classes if not, not inclusive of poisons. Apply knowledge.
Arak2009-08-28 00:47:00
What's so unusable about katas anyway? Why not be clever and have a few unthreatening moves to start it (so they don't try to stop you) before raping with super speed? Is that so impractical? Perhaps in duels where it's expected, but not in the real world!

Or maybe this is just impractical for the big names, who get afflicted to all hell in a group fight, but who are also the only ones allowed to comment on this stuff.

Or don't use autokata? That's the whole point.

There are some forms that require an auto move to pull it off, like tossing or throwing down with a stun, if you don't use it most people will just writhe right out of it.

A lot of you are misjudging me, thinking that I want an easy win and such. Obviously, they were not, as a lot of my concerns were fixed and just seemed to be bugs.

If you want to gripe and complain and overall be a pinsy pansy, go to Achaea forums, you'll be welcome with open arms.

Esano- I'm not complaining about having a "minor" role. I didn't have any role, and to be honest I'm fine with that. I didn't agree with the direction, and to it would of been to both sides disadvantage to hash out those issues during the troubled process that the testing phase was on the private server. How would it of helped the testing process to say one didn't agree with the direction? None, least until the admin was willing to change direction.

My argument was that community complaints have always had a small impact if any on design processes. It usually takes some sort of large imbalance to grease the wheels of coding (Monk stunning, 1st Edition, and that took forever) and thus my reply to Llandros. It has nothing, nor has ever had anything to do with the testing servers.

To be honest, I would have reason to suspect that only a minor amount of the population have ever taken
advantage of the testing servers in the first place for a number of reasons.

1. They don't know enough to form an opinion
2. They would rather play the "real game"
3. They don't agree or care about what the current testing is

Veyrzhul's aura of weapons rebounding disappears.
A reflection of Veyrzhul blinks out of existence.
Aaqyes, a sphere of Harmony rears back and unhinges his jaws, blasting an invisible force at you, and you scream as your eyes bulge and blood leaks from your ears.
You twist aside, deflecting part of the attack.

Sweeping a cheekless klangaxe through the air overhead, Veyrzhul sends it whooshing straight towards your left leg. Your left leg is elegantly struck and swept out from under you, knocking you to the ground.
The blade shears through your body before coming clean through the other side with a strangely quiet swish, momentarily surprising you with its force, before you feel distinctly unwell and collapse to the ground.
You have been slain by Veyrzhul.
A grotesque scarab falls out of your inventory.
A pigwidgeon falls out of your inventory.
A leprechaun falls out of your inventory.
A pooka falls out of your inventory.
A pigwidgeon falls out of your inventory.
A swirling force begins to tug at your soul and the world spins around you.

Kill Tracker for Veyrzhul: Kills {} Deaths {1}
