Novice Safety Measures

Back to Ideas.

Or you could realize that there is already quite a bit of protection and coddling for newbies and let them learn through trial and error. I certainly remembered not to enter that archway at the other end of Faethorn after I got wtfpwned by the guards. If a kid quits over one death, they probably aren't going to last long past novicehood anyways.

Coding resources are best spent elsewhere.

You wish. Lucario sucks, but if you're beating a Marth with snake, they're doing it wrong.

I've played with good people, Dark Magician and PC Chirs. I'm not a bad snake.

I have to agree with this.

If they're -brand- new, they may be a little confused as to what happened, not being used to the IRE system. Then all it takes is one person from that novice's organization taking a little bit of time to explain 'Ok, that's a place you shouldn't go again until you're much stronger, and there are a few other places like that too', or whatever. That'll usually smooth it over. And it helps that that death can be fixed by killing one fink. There's really no serious loss at that point in time, and it'd take just as much effort to explain why that person was just tossed halfway across the world onto their nexus as it would to explain why they died.

I agree with Merik and Sadhyra as well.

I don't see why we should coddle newbies. Then you get people like xXdragonslayer666Xx and ipwnulolz dominating the world.

Those people can reasonible be suggested to use the Name Change option. It's community policing.
Lendren2009-09-10 14:46:52
Namechange is a Guide matter, not our job, per the admin. I don't think Vibeke was serious (at least I hope not; surely no one thinks the only thing or even the main thing keeping the xxxdragonslayerxxx crowd from taking over is that exploring can be dangerous).

I probably should have added it in there, but in my eyes, the ideas would actually be tied. One can only banish a "hostile" novice.

If that is the issue, just tell a guide. They can move newbies.

unless a guide isn't around.

Surprisingly there generally always is.

However it's more that as the game has grown what is considered acceptable has broadened, I have seen someone forced to change their name because it was too close to the name of a lovecraftian demon or something, while you could probably get Haku through either as a Aqua or as a monk. Just depends on who overrules who.
