How about if you have a manse or ship at the aetherplex and trans then you get a special command to exit to the permanant rifts on cosmic, elemental, or ethereal but doesn't work when they are distorted.
edit: to Clairify, you would be able to exit your manse to one of those locations, kind of like a one way door but would still be able to use the rifts to get back down.

What about a skill that from the aetherplex allows you to go to any of the aetherdock exits on ethereal, elemental, cosmic, astral? If you have a manse/ship, will allow you to phase your ship to or from any of those exits as well?
Comments?

Doesn't that defeat one of the main the purposes of the whistle?

Without a ship? That sounds better then a cubix, not counting the fact the skill wouldn't give you the same escape abilities as a cubix does. You'd be able to jump from one plane to any other plane pretty quickly.

Perhaps but it doesn't work on aetherbubbles. (Maybe shouldn't work on astral as well?)

Well, since you have to be at a dock, I'm not sure why that's better than a cubix.

I think I pointed this out somewhere else... afflicts are not like defenses. Afflictions are generally stored on a persona database while many defenses are stored on node data which are recycled whenever you log out (which helps reduce data bloat). Anyway, it's one of those things that seems like it should be easy but really would require a complete rewrite of defenses which would be a multi-month project and result in data bloat. Certainly not worth it for one skill.
Oh okay, I didn't know it was coded like that. From the user-side perspective though, it doesn't make sense that affs and defs would be treated so differently. *shrug* Out of curiosity, how much digital space -do- all our characters take up? I ask merely out of curiosity.

This is neat in theory, but it'd let people bypass archways on Ethereal, bypass nexii on Cosmic (if you can break into org territory)... Plus what Othero said.
I'm still kind of fond of my "phase step" idea or Casi's WTFBomb idea, but barring those, perhaps something like the Phasing attribute from MtG? Raise the def, and you start flickering in and out of phase with reality every 2 seconds, a la ghostform. (plus, it'd give dreamweavers something useful to do while in dreamform: Hunt "flickerers".) So, 2 seconds in, hit someone, phase out, phase in, hit someone, phase out. Naturally, restrictions on dreambody would apply to someone who's phased out. Maybe someone help me smooth out this idea? It's pretty rough, I came up with it while doing maths at work.
Also, are you looking for a single skill, or could we do something that's like a mini-suite of related skills?

Now that you mention it, it'd be pretty freaking sweet to be able to use aetherportals like the Stargate system. It'd have to be a delayed action though, while you dial in the connect sequence and then send in your GDO code so that you don't *splat* against the Iris.
Definately don't let it be used to any specified astral dock. Maybe just have it fling you to a random astral dock, a la Moon/Night bubble, if it even does end up going to Astral?
EDIT: Bwaghalag, sorry for doubleposting.

No phasing defense. I think that may be too powerful in combat.
I'm looking for a single skill, but I wouldn't dismiss a skill that logically contains multiple uses. I'm not sure what you mean by a mini-suite but I don't like the sound of that.

Maybe not better but it is a excellent alternative. Cheaper with almost the same mobility. With a cubix you can jump a raid party from prime to a specific exit on Celestia. This would let you do the same thing, only difference being that if you want to get out you would have to pull back to the dock. It also seems like it would be OP with wildnodes as you could now jump from sphere to sphere.

By mini-suite I meant a single skill with multiple uses.
And darn on the no phasing.... I wanted to sever my ties to reality! I see how it might be too powerful in combat, but it'd have a very steep WP drain, perhaps even add insanity, and the caster wouldn't be able to heal or cure while phased out.
Hrm... need a new idea then.
EDITING in a new idea: How's about a skill to weave an aetheric projection of yourself? It'd put the caster into a trance, so they couldn't "double up" to gank someone, but the projection would take double damage, deal half, but the caster wouldn't suffer ill effects upon the projection going poof. Think Hallucinations from Starcraft.
EDIT to the EDIT: A projection would neither be able to heal nor cure itself.

Well, since aetherspace is more than an overglorified shuttle system these days, how about trans planar moves you to/from aetherbubbles for 10p and a five minute delay, modified by effects that speed up gateweaving? If you have access to a small aethership, that would still be the cheaper and faster alternative, but it might encourage more people to get to the bubbles.

Sorry, no, you almost should always have to travel to reach bubbles. That's the point of aetherspace!

5 minutes.... egh. I'd never ever use it. Ever.

Fix it so I don't burn aetherwill so fast, I glide fly and change directions often which KILLS my will. Add a mode so when you're traveling you don't burn Aetherwill, but you can't fire either.
Also please don't add dock jump points, it's hard enough keeping people off planes without having another way to jump to it. Neat idea though.

MonolithicAura
When this skill activated, you function as a superpowered monolith sigil. Nobody can teleport to you, nor summon you, nor can you teleport or summon. In addition, cubixes, flow, via, artisan prized, majorsixth, astroglide, meld centre, enchanted paintings, pyramid puzzles, planar contrivences, havens and distortable rifts do not function in your presence while this defense is active. Nexii are not effected by this skill, nor are manse portals.

Sounds more like an Ascendant skill, tbh.

First decent idea that I've heard so far, but I don't know if that's really a skill I would want since all they have to do is move one room, touch cubix or any other thing. Monoliths do this anyways.
Mirami2009-09-23 23:26:00
How about a moonbeam-esque ability- local teleport, slight delay, no power.
Unknown2009-09-23 23:28:33
What about the ability to weave a protective bubble of the relative planar energy about yourself, so that allies are not affected by planar damages in your presence, astral insanity accrual is slightly reduced while it is up, and you are able to survive in aetherspace without a ship for a few minutes (making a little one room ship like the illusionary manse skill for you to pilot)? If you don't run into a ship (that you force your way into) or a dock in time, you'd die as your little bubble implodes.
