Did the leader role even have any function aside from +500 gold, +unlynchable?

I mean, if not, does it even matter who gets leader so long as it's not scum? This is a question of 'Who do we mind not being able to lynch, and who do we want to give some cash to?'
Lorick2009-09-28 23:28:16
The last game, that was pretty much how it works. The Leader is unlynchable and gets bonus gold. That's it, besides a few flavor posts here and there. If it changes later down the line during this game I don't know, but that was how it was last game.
Furien2009-09-28 23:51:23
So there's really no reason to not pick a mage or not pick a tank, they get the same deal anyways.

And if this is at all like last game, there's an SK and a mafia that has to charge up every night or some awkwardness like that, though Bali probably fixed that after Lowe completely fluked and killed Shiri (SK) day one.
Lorick2009-09-29 00:01:39
Most likely. Also this time we don't know for certain how long we may be traveling, suggesting we might be fighting a more traditional mafia group in there kill powers. Last game we had a limit of 10 days. This one, one isn't mentioned. Also, people need to speak up. I've seen quite a few people peek in and then leave without doing anything and I'd rather not have a repeat of the last mafia game.

Just so there is no confusion, all the special rules in the game are listed on the front page. Everything you need to know is listed there. There is no "time limit" on this game, like the last one. There are no "challenge abilities". If you have a question about how either the shop mechanic or the challenge mechanic works, do no hesitate to pm me.

I'd rather we put someone slightly squishy but important to the role. Giving them a day lynch protection would help them and the doctor could protect them. (I'm guessing the mod but Bali leans towards traditional roles)

I'd like to Nominate: Requiem for leader. There's no particular reason to pick one person over another. I'll repeat what I said last time. Voting for a leader is saying "I will never think that this person is scummy for the rest of the game" and the only person I trust to do that right now is myself.

I'm also opposed to choosing a "tank" for leader. If it turns out that we need to eliminate the leader after all, I'd rather have someone easily disposed of than someone who might actually be invincible. The only exception to this is if we have a tank AND a vig. We can test the two against each other, and if the tank survives, then we elect him. But that requires a day-vig and assumptions about the setup, which I'm not comfortable making yet.

Also, for the record, I'm not suggesting that a tank or a day-vig claim at this point. I'm not role phishing. I'm just explaining the only situation in which I'd be ok with electing a tank for leader.

Right, which would lend itself to a much more aggressive mafia group. Last time it was better for the mafia to hide, this time without a time limit they would have to be more agressive to win. Soo.. I suspect, least from that information, that the mafia will be much more lethal this time around. If not, perhaps a soft cult considering who the flavor is worded for the spies in the starting page (Being bribed by a rich troll). Anyone else have a different assessment of that?
Unknown2009-09-29 00:31:00
Seems early to be assuming cult, though obviously we shouldn't cross it out.
Lorick2009-09-29 00:32:30
I don't have any special kill resistances and I can prove my powerset and at least give a slight nod toward my alignment if you like. I knew the old king in life, and can call upon his wisdom for the benefit of the group if neccessary. Although, if I do so, I would have to ask if it is convincing that you support me. I don't even mind giving the extra gold to those that do.
Unknown2009-09-29 00:33:11
Wait, in the last game wasn't it the leader who made the final decisions on challenges and stuff? But I guess it doesn't matter as long as we pick a strong townie to be leader. I'm gonna lean towards voting for shiri as well, however I want to hear what he thinks first. He is always very good at these games.
Unknown2009-09-29 00:34:27
I'm inclined to think there isn't a cult. If the spies being bribed by a rich troll are the mafia, then in order for that flavor to justify a cult's existence, Slogoth would have to be recruiting people into the mafia itself, rather than into a cult. And that seems rather unbalanced, especially since we weren't warned about it.

That's just my opinion on the cult thing. It's guesswork as much as the suggestion of a cult in the first place, but status quo is that mafia games don't have cults, so you'd need something to indicate that we had one before I'd really start being afraid of them. (Cults are evil things that make winning as town much more difficult than usual)
Lorick2009-09-29 00:34:27
It was a group vote for challenges if I recall right. Like.. Nominate so and so to fight Dragon.
Unknown2009-09-29 00:34:52
Ah wait nevermind challenges are done with a majority vote.
Unknown2009-09-29 00:35:35
Yeah. The leader didn't affect the challenges in the last game.
Unknown2009-09-29 00:37:30
I know it's a bit early to really read people yet, but I find it rather suspicious that people are suggesting Shiri for leader when he's not even here. The only people that should be comfortable voting for anyone but themselves are mason and mafia. Townies can't trust anyone else yet, and with Shiri not even here I find it rather suspicious that you've read him and deemed him trustworthy.

Shiri may be good, but that just means that if he's mafia and we elect him, he'll probably win. Keep that in mind.
Lorick2009-09-29 00:39:54
Yeah, I don't disagree requiem. We don't know anything about anyone, and voting for anyone based on no knowledge is bad. I'm willing to put myself forward, name claim, power claim, all of that. Even give an example if neccessary. Voting for someone who isn't at the very least willing to give any information about themselves is bad. Hell, when Visaeris did it last time he full claimed.
Unknown2009-09-29 00:40:22
b-b-b-ut Shiri is teh awezomsaucers!!!

Yeah. It is a bit foolish to start throwing someone out as a candidate when they have not even posted yet. Lets say they are scum and they already have a few people saying "Lets vote them leader!". It creates a good veil for them to hide under.
Unknown2009-09-29 00:41:20
Which is why I said I was leaning but wanted to hear from him first. You also haven't offered any reasons of why you should be leader except that you trust yourself. By that logic everyone could be a leader.
Lorick2009-09-29 00:42:30
Hmm, why not, I can at least show I'm being honest. Everyone, help me think of a question to ask our former king. He is quite wise.
