Mafia: Feudal Japan

It is feudal japan. The majority of players are nothing but wandering mercenaries, e.g Ronin, without Lord or Master. In order to be successful, they must be recruited by a lord. There are three waring sides, each represented by a leader: Shogun, the equivalent of a fuedal lord, the mischeivous Bandits, and the cunning Ninjas. Whatever side claims dominance (by killing off the opposition) over the others will be victorious.

Rules borrowed from Bali
Votes must be in bold for them to count, like this: Vote: Joe. Unvotes should also be bolded (Unvote: Jane) so that I can spot them easier, but it's not required.
A simple majority of votes (1/2 the number of living players plus one, rounded down) will achieve a lynch and end the Day. Unvoting after that point will not save someone's life.
Nights may last up to 48 hours, but may be shorter if all night choices are in before the deadline.
Dead men tell no tales. If you get killed, stop talking until the game is over (a contentless "go "/Bah! post is fine).
Do not discuss this game with other players outside of this thread, unless your role PM specifically stated you could do so (as scum, and then only at night).
Do not directly quote any PMs you receive.
If you see something you don't understand, ASK! If it has to do with your role, feel free to PM me directly.
Treat this game as a commitment; if you're going to be gone for longer than 48 hours (not counting weekends), let us know. I will replace severely inactive players, but your fellow players may choose to lynch you themselves first.
Any action which would be illegal to actually do is also illegal to fake (for example, posting a made-up PM that shows a Cop result of guilty/innocent).
Have fun; don't be an ass; participate!

Special Rules
+ Ronin must join a faction to win the game.
+ Once you have been recruited by one of the three faction leaders, you win/lose with that faction.
+ A faction wins by killing off all other factions.
+ Special day 1 morningphase: first day, each of the leaders will select 1 person, before the day starts. The order of selection is random.
+ There are no vanilla roles.
+ If all faction leaders die, everyone loses.
+ Each faction can only have a maximum of 4 players. So 3 Ronin per team.
+ If there is only one faction left, and un-aligned Ronin still in the game, that faction wins, and the remaining Ronin lose.
+ If a leader is killed, but recruited ronin of the faction are still alive, they are still apart of that faction and win/lose with it.

Yeeaah, see you in a couple hours!
Lorick2009-10-02 01:37:35
Yeah, same, this game looks fun and the rules do bring a different twist to it. Not sure how it will play out, we will see.

In the sake of time it's now Early Morning

Each leader is allowed to send me who they want their first recruitment to be. You have 48 hours but I don't expect it to take that long. Roles are still going out but the leaders already have theirs.

Edit: All roles are now out.

damn, this looks like fun, wish I could have signed up intime.

I'll add you as a backup just because of the new sig. The more I can see that the happier I'll be.

Rules Clarification question: What happens if two leaders both try to recruit the same person?
Tervic2009-10-02 03:08:34
Or, for that matter, try to recruit another leader? O_o
Unknown2009-10-02 03:09:53
Recruitment will work on a first come first serve basis. If someone has already recruited the leaders target then they will be informed and told to find another target.

Edit:Same for a leader.

The only action possible in Early Morning is recruitment, am I reading that right?

Yep.

And it was pointed out to me that the way I'm now handling recruitment has the chance at breaking the game so I'm going to change it. Sorry for the confusion. From now on during the night if you recruit someone who has already pledged or is a leader then your attempt will just fail.

All roles and PMs should be out. It is now Day 1
Lorick2009-10-02 03:57:57
Hey guys, this game has some very interesting and difficult to grasp concepts. Basically, all Ronin have to join a faction to win and there can never be a good ending for unaligned Ronin since there will always be at least one member of a faction plus Ronin at any time. Soo.. Basically I'm guessing the game revolves around the various faction heads trying to kill each other while trying to recruit the best Ronin. Ugh, this makes it really really hard to figure out where to go from here.. I mean, basically it encourages anyone who isn't in a faction to put themselves forward while at the same time making sure at least half of our voting population right now is in someone's camp. Least, I'd assume half, maybe less if someone failed or something.
Dugan2009-10-02 04:01:35
I am going to random vote.

VOTE: Zenon

It is a bit hard in some ways Lorick, in some ways it is interesting. 12 people, 3 leaders. Each leader may pick a person. If all three were successful, then its 2 in each 'clan' and 6 ronin. The leaders only know who their people are. The next night, only one leader might get a successful pick and the other two fail. It will be an interesting game.
Lorick2009-10-02 04:08:56
Well, game just starts and I have to get up in the morning.. Ugh. I'll be back after getting some rest. Since no one is going to reveal their alignment and everyone will of course claim Ronin, our first day lynch will be a shot in the dark pretty much, even worse than normal because I have a feeling that since there are no vanilla roles there will not be a common trend among the faction leaders. In fact, we don't want to lynch them all because then we would lose, but we also don't want to help them without being recruited by them first. Talk about a balancing act..
Zenon2009-10-02 04:10:15
I'd rather not vote until we get a better idea of what's happening, since lynching an unrecruited Ronin would just lose all the factions a potential recruit. Half of us at least don't have any clear targets.
Xavius2009-10-02 04:10:42
I'm afraid that this is going to lend itself to a fair bit of lurking. The unaligned have no reason to vote, period. The aligned have no reason to vote first, because two sides mutually want to gank anyone from the third side.

So, since my self-interest (and the self-interest of half the current players) says make friends, not enemies, and my future friends-in-law don't have a good reason to stir the pot, Imma go ahead and...

Vote: no lynch
Lorick2009-10-02 04:11:32
For us, lynching other Ronin would actually be the best course of action. If you aren't in a faction, you _want_ to be recruited, and thinning the herd is the best way to achieve those results. Of course, all the other Ronin are thinking the same thing, so...
Dugan2009-10-02 04:15:36
The three leaders are at war. They must eliminate the other leaders and gather their own forces. Ronin can only win if they are recruited and their faction wins. And since each faction can only have four people in it at a time, people will have to be eliminated.
