I am in the middle of creating my character and I am looking for some advice before I go ahead and choose a race and class. I'm really interested in bashing, especially over PvP since that is not really my thing.
My question is: What would be the most proficient class to bash with and why? Also.. what race(s) would be most suited to the class to get the best out of it. Human seems to be the best all round, but if other races work better then it would be really helpful to know which. I know monks on the other IRE games are the best bashers, is Lusternia's monks the equivilant?
Hopefully I can get some quick replies and thanks for reading!

Monks are the best bashers in general, although I'm not sure how the four guilds rank. I'd think that the best monk class/race combination for bashing would be (male) Kephera Shofangi or Tahtetso, because they get weapon bonuses, massive resistances to damage and lots of stacking regeneration, but I might not know what I'm talking about.

Thanks Zenon! Any other opinions?

Monks are better at lower levels for bashing though at higher levels I'd still say that warriors are the best or at least I think I can bash faster than a monk.

Kid made an illithoid Nekotai...

Bad?

Yeah, just an observation.

Thanks for all your input everyone!

Opinion from before was that best combo was kephera shonfangi/tahtetso with psymet...
The recent kata change hasn't affected bashing too much. With the removal of various modifiers, the -2 momentum rule doesn't hinder us if we can attack a new critter right away (the maxed out hunting kata I can make is only momentum 3). The only part it's slower (aside from the slight slowness from the removal of swiftstrike) is with the shield breaking, which now requires a new chain.

Losing momentum does hinder if you one-kata kill things more than once in a row, but it's not a serious impediment. Not sure about warrior vs. monk. Monk does seem smoother and I think it's a little faster for me, but you don't get to kill two things in a combo (like warriors can) unless you use single hits instead of kata forms. And I know that Vathael for one hunted quite a bit faster than I did when I was a warrior, already.
My advice would have been a faeling monk, influencing into the high 80s or low 90s, then bash away (reincarnate into something tankier if you find yourself too squishy).

Just felt like assuring you that Illithoid Nekotai is a pretty good bashing combination. Knight bashing can feel pretty bad in the beginning, and is far more reliant on good weapons than Monks (though you should still aim for two fast weapons) but picks itself up towards the end. Monks are above par all the way through.

That's off base. You can temper knight weapons easily and near instantly to maxes; you cannot temper kata weapons.
Anyway,
1h warrior > monks > 2h warrior

True, but the point differences are bigger on knight weapons than on monk weapons no? One handed monk weapons have a... what, 15 point spread?

and.... point differences mean absolutely nothing now for warriors. There's no reason to have any warrior weapon less than "perfect."
edit: deleted, thought you said 2h monk weaps. I'm unfamiliar with 1h stats on them

I see. So for bashing you no longer want maximum speed on your weapon? It truly doesn't matter, and you can just take the first weapon that comes out of the forge?

You do, and you certainly can just forge once if you want; just snag a smith to adjust your stats to whatever you want. Look up AB FORGING TEMPER on the wiki.

I don't know, I tend to think the mages have the best bashing potential. At least to level 80, after that I would say warriors now that monks have been nerfed into the ground.
Unknown2009-10-06 11:14:27
What do you mean by a 15 point spread?
Edit:
@Krin: Monks haven't been nerfed in to the ground. Please stop saying garbage.

One handed kata weapons come out of the forge with 95 in all stats. You then forge on it until you've added 15 points to that. No more and no less. That's how kata weapons differ from regular weapons, in that the sum of their total stats is always the same.
