I vaguely recall having a copy of Where the Wild Things Are as a child, but since I heard it was a movie, I've had almost zero inclination to go see it... that is, until I read an interview with Maurice Sendak who told parents they can go to hell!

No way... really!? Are you sure it's not just a marketing ploy to make the movie more attractive to rebellious teenagers? Though, reading the actual interview, I probably would've said the same thing.

I seriously doubt the target audience is rebellious teenagers! I think Maurice Sendak is just a curmudgeonly individualist.

I am worried the movie will not keep true to the book. The book had such a rich storyline, plot, lovable characters and the movie will probably ruin all that!

Yes, I know who that, hehe. I mean, 90% of my childhood pretty much consisted of this guy, excepting maybe "Goodnight moon". As far as I am concerned, however, that quote is concentrated awesomeness right there. And I think is is much the same thing overall that needs to be said to parents. I remember one time hearing a mother whining about how transformers wasn't good for her kids, while I sat there and thought "That's why they make rating systems". If you truly are worried, either go see it first, or go read a review. Instead you sit there and pre-whine about it.

I'm really excited for the movie as I saw a commercial with the author talking about how Spike Jonze has taken nothing away from the book and added so much more. He seemed to genuinely be a huge fan and said that Jonze was able to capture the peculiarity of the book while keeping true to the original ideas and whatnot.

I can't figure out if this is sarcasm or you just really don't know the book.

The book is only 10 sentences. How can you possibly not stick to the ideals and peculiarity of the book?

You could make any movie about a kid sent to his room, daydreams about going to a strange island, running around with a bunch of furries, then returning home for supper and it would be true to the book.

In fact I bet you could exchange the kid for a grown man/woman living with his/her mom, market it as furry porn and it would still be close to the book.

Yes, I was being a bit sarcastic as I know it's mainly a picture book. The main thing I was getting at was that the author said he enjoyed the movie version and therefore I feel a bit better about the whole thing.
