Yeah! Imperian has something just like this that help newbies through the introduction process. We should try to do something like that! It would definitely make more novices stay if there is a list of things that can be done for rewards. They were pretty simple things like talk over CT or HONOURS someone!

There's a form of that for collegium quests already. However, interesting idea - why not give experience bonuses to collegium quests, too? Come on, they're wee little newbies!
I like this idea. Since the mechanic is there, graduating with honors should give an xp boost. It's not like anyone is threatening to get demigod from Newton.

Fixed for you.
Oh, so the God can either grant the achievement or a speedy, crispy death? Sounds good to me!
Xiel2009-10-16 20:10:58
I agree with the above comments. No thanks on encouraging PK kill achievements (since that's kinda the reason everyone didn't much like the RANKINGS DEATHS/KILLS deal) and yes, please, to the mini-achievements for the wee little novices. I'd say go for something like...
Life in the Basin: Lesson #
-How to use the Rift commands!
-How to refill from a shop!
-How to cure an affliction!
-How to heal your health/mana/ego!
-How to use your MAP!
-How to read the HELP scrolls!
-How to communicate on an aether!
-How to wield/wear your belongings!
-How to enter a manse!
-How to register!
...and so on and so forth. And if the rewards were appropriately tweaked upon achievement, this could be another way to promote nublet learning by explaining the basic commands in the ACHIEVEMENT INFO ID thing. But then again, we'll have to explain what achievements ARE...but I figure the guides can do that.

Would it be possible to do org-based achievements?
Unknown2009-10-16 20:16:32
Completing the epic quests should definitely be an achievement.
Estarra2009-10-16 20:21:01
We're specifically avoiding any PK achievements because I'm a little wary how our playerbase would handle it. Sorry!
We're definitely interested in newbie achievements. So keep the ideas coming!

Could do achievements for the Newton honors quests.

Hand of Lachesis: Teach 50 lessons ot a newbie
Brick House: Tear down an Icewall X amount of times
News Reporter: Write in your city or commune news X amount of time

Awesome!!!
On a more constructive note, maybe newbie achievement rewards could be things like small amounts of gold, some herbs or elixirs, and other such things that all newbies find useful to have.
Also, I just want to add to Dag that I think all achievements should be doable without changing race, trade, class and guild. Organisational achievements should be general enough so that you don't have a different achievement for each epic quest, but instead one achievement for doing an epic quest, period.

Mob kills started being counted before mob influences. Several days/weeks before.
That is an explanation, thanks. Though I'm still having a hard time believing I've killed more than 3700 mobs in the last few weeks, or even in my entire life in Lusternia.

The mob numbers carried over are from when Kongregate started, because that number had been used as an achievement for Kongregate.

OH! I like Kira's idea here. Newbies really have no gold to start out with and completing a few things and rewarding them with curing stuff would be sooo great! The biggest complaint I hear from the college quests is that the newbies don't have certain supplies. This would help!

You could also stock those things in novice-packs. Ask your guild patron (or sell out of your guild tutor).

/random idea:
What of tying together a series of honours to attain an achievement? Such as, say...:
Gnome Confidante:
Pre-req: Savior of the Gnomes, Aid to the Facility Gnomes, Destroyer of Mucklemarsh
Fink Advocate:
Pre-req: Hero of the Finks, Restorer of the Finks of Mucklemarsh
Cupid Incarnate:
Pre-req: Delport Matchmaker, Helper of the Wydyr Lovers
Wheee.

Oooh I like that idea. But please don't include the Newton's quests as requisites... Or if you do, make it so I can go back and get them.
Xiel2009-10-17 23:09:03
I wouldn't mind at all being able to go back for just one day to do the quests and explore. I was a dumb nublet, so I never really explored or quested there, much to my dismay.
Eventru2009-10-17 23:24:51
I don't really see why we'd link achievements to quests like that, as that's sort of the idea of Epic Quests...
