Maybe you guys can help me out here. I'm interested in adding newbie achievements and I pulled some ideas from the previous thread. I know people like the idea of adding herbs and items as rewards but I'm a little leery insofar that the first shrubbing in Lusternia was for someone creating hundreds of newbies to get mutton chops that we used to give to newbies and then selling them in a shop. Thus, I like the idea of lesson rewards as they stick to the character and can't be exploited. However, for tasks that take some effort (like collegium quests), I may be more inclined to award gold or possibly items. Anyway, what else do you think would make good newbie tasks and what should the rewards be? Let us know!

Finish a collegium quest (award 100 gold)
Finish 2 collegium quests (award 500 gold)
Finish all collegium quests (award 1000 gold)
Learn Rift to planar and then use the rift command (25 lessons)
Refill from a shop (5 lessons)
Heal your health (5 lessons)
Heal your mana (5 lessons)
Heal your ego (5 lessons)
Use the MAP command (5 lessons)
Read a HELP file (5 lessons)
Communicate on a collegium channel (5 lessons)
Communicate on a guild channel (5 lessons)
Communicate on a city or commune channel (5 lessons)
Wiled an item (5 lessons)
Wear an item (5 lessons)
Enter a manse (5 lessons)
Register (25 lessons)
Kill 10 creatures in Newton (100 gold)
Kill 50 creatures in Newton (500)
Kill 100 creatures in Newton (1000 gold)

... are these achievements that established characters will never, ever be able to get? Or will they not be on our achievements list? Otherwise, I like the idea. The lesson amounts could actually be higher too, given how many lessons it takes to get anywhere and how many skills newbies are trying to learn. Maybe 10 lessons per, would help jumpstart a newbie just that little bit more.

Or, keep the lessons as they are, but give lessons for doing Collegium quests instead of gold (like, 25 lessons / 25 lessons / 50 lessons).

I like the idea of gold and lessons. There's tons to learn, so lesson rewards will help with that and gold will help with supplies.

I suggest you replace the rift reward with a full set of healing herbs(10 each)

Erm. I thought the gist of that opening bit was that she didn't want to do that. :/

Maybe an achievement for donating power to your Nexus for the first time?

I skimmed, you caught me.

I do like this alot. Question is, will it be retroactive? I'm assuming that adding these newbie achievements for the collegiums and stuff will be able to be achieved by already established players, but what about the killing things in newton one?

Maybe replace the newton-killing thing with something else. Like, getting one of the two Newton quest honors, that way even established players, who took the time to do those quest(s) can get the achievement. I say only one, that way people don't have to break RP in order to get the achievement.
Xenthos2009-10-22 01:56:51
100, not 1000.
Fern2009-10-22 01:58:03
hehe, misread. editing.
Aerotan2009-10-22 02:08:27
I think it's a good idea, even if it isn't retroactive (Especially since there's really no way to determine which characters did and did not kill 100 Newton tings)

I think people are more wanting the 105 ish lessons that would come from it, than ~2000 gold...

I think its a good idea the tasks are simple enough most people can do it., and I would love if I got the retroactive lessons from it...

That's why I said remove the newton-kills achievement and instead link it to doing one of the honors quests.

Not allowing established players to get newbie achievements would suck for those who are completionists.

I just want the achievements checked off. tongue.gif

I like the idea of newbie achievements, and lesson rewards shouldn't be exploitable. I too would suggest that we add more non-credit ways for newbies to get lessons. It really won't hurt credit sales if people can get a little farther in learning without buying credits. I'd imagine most credits are bought for the purpose of artifacts, anyway.
Daganev2009-10-22 02:21:54
I would suggest making everything a lesson reward and removing the gold reward.
Zenon2009-10-22 02:24:07
Doesn't turning in that number of Newton creatures get you more gold anyway?
Xiel2009-10-22 02:31:12
I, as well, echo the sentiment that it'd be an excellent idea to reward folk with lessons (since this can't be near as abusable as a full rift of herbs would be). My own selfish note comes with the fact that I was a dumb nublet and if the achievement near the end of the list was linked to killing Newton folk/doing the Newton honours quests, I wouldn't be able to cross those off. Heck, I don't think I've even fully explored Newton as a nublet and am probably missing that as a gap for explorer rankings too. sad.gif

Also, yes, donating power for the first time would be a good idea too. I'd suggest tossing more than just gold for the collegium quests though, with their completion.

Newton's isn't counted for explorers, I thought.

Dunno, but if it does, I'm screwed. sad.gif

It doesn't.
