I think -everybody- bashed 100 critters in newton... Why not give the bonuses to all lv21+ characters anyways? I'm pretty sure everybody bashed a bunch of finks.
Although, you could always take the reverse path, and remove the finks/gnomes thing entirely, given some orgs (Paladins) forbid the killing of gnomes, thus limiting the benefit to certain orgs only.
I agree that more free lessons would encourage more novices to buy credits, as they're exposed to higher-level, more useful abilities. 100 lessons in influence will get you the first level of each influence type, allowing more novices to quest, as an example.
I like the ideas (provided they all give lessons), overall!

The extra 110 lessons for novices will allow them to get alot of useful stuff. I know that I would definately walk novices through at least a couple of these when I teach them.
Letting aetherbubble finks/gnomes count as well would be nice for the obcessive ahchivement completionists.
I agree that influencing achivements in Newton would be good.

I'm a completionist so I want to complete these achievements...
Anyway, new achievements for novices... well if we want them to get interested in aethercombat.
First time locking into a module.
First time launching an aethership.
First time healing the hull of an aethership.
First time hitting(killing?) an aetherbeast.
First time siphoning power from a vortex.
And maybe doing all of the above will give you an "Aetherspace progidy" achievement. And lessons rewards so the younglings can learn more aethercraft.
EDIT: Healing certain afflictions.
Composing during fear
Applying mending to a broken leg
Writhe out of bindings
Focus body out of paralysis
(Sip fire against frost)
Also, an achievement for using an enchantment for the first time.

For the commodity quests: Give, say, an extra 500 gold for completing them the first time...
- kill a rockeater and turn in the body
- catch a chicken and bring it in alive
- catch a cow or a sheep alive
- bring in lumber
- ...probably I'm forgetting something.
Also: Achievement for the first honours quest completed.
Minor stuff like sending a tell, using SAY, using EMOTE, finding your city and collegium, greeting a mob to try to get a quest, linking to your city nexus, using teleport, diagnosing. Could give a little xp/karma for completing them.

Note a lot of these things will be accomplished over the course of the college. Leaving gold rewards for newbie area only rewards is fine, and having lesson rewards for college quests is a great idea. The game already requires waaay more spread than the other IRE games to be a stable character, and that would be a great way to encourage newbies to try out the classes while at the same time fixing that lack.

This is the Spiritsingers' list of things to advance novices for, if it helps. Not mentioned before, that I can tell: Mentor, publish, description, explorer.

Chimes may complete any of these tasks to earn an advancement off their

may complete up to four of them.
- Mentor: Choose a mentor from those listed in GHELP MENTORS.
- Power: Bring 20 power to Moonhart Mother Tree (for instance see CHELP

- Level: Advance to circle 21. Only valid for those fresh from the
Portal of Fate.
- Explorer: Reach the explorer rank of Itinerant Traveler (HELP
