I love the concept of beast mastery, but I'm getting a little frustrated with the utter lack of variety I get out of my beasts. I'm hoping someone here can give me some advice to get away from the current colour scheme I seem stuck on.
1st beast (horse) - Mixture of all feeds, totaling around 170 before maturity - brown with white wings
2nd beast (horse) - Mixture with an emphasis on oats, some fruit, around 150 total before maturity - brown with white wings
3rd beast (hippogriff)
- 150 vegetables, 50 fruit before maturity. Brown wings, light brown body.
- another 75 vegetable feed, zimorued. Brown wings, light brown body.
- zimorued again. Light brown wings, brown body.
- another 90 vegetable feed, zimorued again. Dark grey wings, brown body.
At least I got something different on the wings that last time, but it's still overall brown. Any ideas what I'm doing to get so much brown?

Your soul is too brown. Stop being brown on the inside.

Other than giving him a DRASTIC feed change? Not really, you made the mistake of giving the hippogriff the same feed as before, if you wanted something differant you should've switched to all-something-else like meat or fish or something.

It's possible that "brown" maps to different things on different beasts. It's possible that oats lead primarily to brown in horses, but vegetables lead primarily to brown in hippogriffs. There's also the happy random element involved. Still, I don't think that anyone has done any major research into animal husbandry, so...yeah. Beg the admins or get to work!

I used to have a light brown hippogriff with light grey wings, which got me really disappointed. I changed his diet from a 50/50 oat and fruitfeed into a a pure meat one. I used zimoru a bit too early(after about 20 hours of feeding on meat, though, so he turned into a light brown hippogriff with light blue wings. So, I kept feeding him meatfeed until he got about 4 years old and then used zimoru on him, and he finally turned out into a ferocious hippogriff with black wings. It's not really something I like but it's waay better than brown.

It could be worse. You know what colour all of me beasts end up as? Dead. Dead colour.

I find that doing purely meat feed gave me the best results. Not at first, mind you, but once they matured and I managed to train them how to fly (and grow wings as a result) I'd feed them a zimoru or two and it wouldn't be long before I got an awesome beast. Let's see if I can find my old one...

I may have to try meat feed. I tried more vegetables since I wanted to bring out the gold I got once in her tail, then veg and fruit, then pure fruit, trying about a hundred feed each time. All I managed off of it was light brown wings/gray body, gray wings/russet (which is defined as yellowish or reddish brown) body, light brown wings/gray body, gray wings/dark brown body. Which means I'm at about 600 feed and 7 zimoru, and I've still got a brown hippogriff.
