Well, if you're getting it for the armor, you won't get that from renting it anyway.
No no, don't get me wrong. I really, really, REALLY want it. Mass effect and alphe protocol just happened to win out.
Merik2010-01-21 08:16:14
Alpha Protocol has been pushed back to god knows when though, so you might as well get Dragon Age as a replacement.

Finished the game tonight, certainly the best I've played for a while.
My vote for the most powerful spell goes to forcefield hands down, being able to take even bosses out of fights for a while never got old.
Played it on normal and didn't ever switch to anything harder, but I'll replay on hard and will check out nightmare for some fights.

Did you try crushing prison?
I would have to say that and cone of cold are the two best spells in the game.
Veyrzhul2010-01-21 12:10:41
Crushing prison doesn't work on most bosses, though (at least not the holding/incapacitating component). But yes, I've used that alot, too.
Force field is also great as an emergency option if one of the squishies (or any character in general) has drawn too much aggro to outcure effectively. Just put a force field on them and use the time the enemies waste their hits to heal/kill.

I finally completed the game this morning myself. Arcane Warrior was fun after the third ability, which made me a dependable and eventually invincible tank (the archdemon could barely scratch me on normal), but did not blend so well with my choice of party members. We dealt steady damage, but not quickly enough, and I swear my ranged rogue didn't do much except draw attention to herself.
I am tempted to restart my Dalish duelist-assassin concept, if there are not any bugs that make it less viable than archery...
But, really? A twenty second cut scene, a handful of rather dull questions with choices that did not seem to carry the same weight others did earlier in the game, and five minutes of interesting undramatic stills? And where the hell were Eamon, Teagan, and all the other arc-leads you would have expected to send you off on such an occasion? I was extremely disappointed; this was one of the weakest endings I have ever seen, for such an otherwise good game.
I hope the expansion pack goes off without a hitch. I am looking forward to playing a stinky Orlesian with armpit hair.

You don't have to play an Orlesian, you can import YOUR warden, which is what I plan to do

Oh, I know, but-- armpit hair. That's better than fish.
Besides, my first play-through character won't be going anywhere.

Didn't take the deal, eh?

Of course not!
"Marion King-Maker" devoted her short life to rooting out blood magic, abominations, and other perversions of humanity that the innocent be secure in their persons and power left to those who would wield it responsibly (yes, good luck), and thus could not undo those deeds to save it. Thus, do we honor her sacrifice for all of Ferelden!!

Has anyone attempted to solo this game on casual or even normal, yet?
Doman2010-01-22 04:03:42
Psh, my char is awesome, AND alive. How about THAT?
Remember. Grey Wardens do what it takes to win. No matter what it takes.

And all it took to win was winning support through playing by the rules.
Win-win.

I really can't imagine soloing this game. I'd die way too often from the stupid mage spells that incapacitate you for 15+ seconds.

What of an "assassin?" From what I understand, the third (or fourth) level of stealth allows you to attack while concealed. It might not work against certain opponents, but coupled with traps, poisons, and grenades... as well as the ranger specialization... it could be feasible?
Veyrzhul2010-01-22 05:45:39
Never had a rogue with enough sneak to try it, but I think the talent you mean lets you recloak in combat. You'll still become uncloaked with an attack.
Vhaas2010-01-22 11:30:43
So... did anyone else notice the "cake is a lie" Easter egg?
A question regarding the ending, asking for an answer that doesn't reveal too much: If I had bothered with some of the faction boards, would I have seen more ending scenes explaining the resolutions that followed?
I thought that rushing to beat the game would get it out of my system, but now, I can't stop playing.

Soloing = Suicide--too much going on, and since the game was developed using a 4 party basis...it would just be extremely hard.
Much of the Faction Board stuff is isolated from the main plot, so it would not have shown up in the ending. There are side quests that have an impact on particular companions which would be touched upon in the ending, but side quest just for gold like the faction board stuff is not really anything that has an impact on the ending. However, its fun, gives you experience and gold, so it's good to do. (I'm working on a second run-though with a different character and after that decided to read the official guide--man, I can't believe that I didn't realize there are side quests in the Mage Tower, for instance).

Easy to miss. I hiked from top to bottom in the Mages Tower (Looking for Wynne after refusing her, though I never did find her >_>) and found nothing. The boards were a lot of fun, but after being unable to complete one of the Chantry jobs in Denerim I became annoyed and wandered away from them.
I need to play this game at least twice more- once as a human noble and again as a Dalish.
