A year and three months in development, the 1.0 release of Mudlet is here!

What is Mudlet? It’s a free, open-source and cross-platform MUD client that works on Linux, Windows, and Mac OS! Designed to be fast, efficient, and user-friendly, you can get your own copy for free right here: http://www.mudlet.org/download/

Mudlet features Lua as it’s scripting base and a rich client API to support it. Split screen, auto-completion from output and input, multi-session gaming, HTML and text logging, replay recording and playback are all part of the package.

Mudlet also features a rich UI api for creating your own labels and buttons anywhere on the screen and changing their looks:

Special focus has also been placed on the speed of the client (watch).

Now go out and enjoy Mudlet! We’d love to hear your feedback on our forums.

Feel free to post up any questions and whatnot.

Mudlet's looking better than it ever has, so congratulations on your progress! (No, I'm not making the jump myself. Sorry.)

The speed rendering video has me just a little skeptical, since it's comparing two clients with lots of features with one that's pre-alpha 0.1. I'm sure your display is nice and speedy, but where's the scrollback to show the text is really all there? Scrollback, wordwrap, formatting, trigger counts, etc can all have a marked effect. What's the secret to all that speed, anyway? smile.gif

Actual speed. Vadi's part of a South American cartel.

A hand-written display widget is what it is wink.gif

MUSHclient uses entirely custom drawing routines, too, though I wouldn't say they're optimized as much as they could be (yet). The color selection process is a small nightmare. Heh.

As Treant is coded in lua and Mudlet uses lua as a base, how much rewriting would it take to actually convert Treant to use mudlet?

My main reason for asking is I do like to use Linux flavours on occasion and Wine doesn't run MUSH/Treant well enough for my tastes. Too much system lag.

I'd be interested in helping make Treant mudlet-friendly tongue.gif

Any chance of cross posting that speed test to another video host? For some reason my connection in the UK doesn't seem to like Blip TV.

Congrats on the release by the way!

Gave it a go. Managed to crash Mudlet though. Oops. Nice UI on it though!

EDIT: So I can give details of my test. Using the latest version of Shuyin's map and LTMS2.0 I did ROOM FIND E x10 in one command in MUSHClient and Mudlet. MUSH handled it in about 10 seconds (4.43) and Mudlet seemed to handle it slightly faster but stopped allowing me to input commands afterwards.
Vadi2009-11-17 01:56:08
Hm, well I just tested on my map (18,647 lines) but didn't get the input lag after. What OS?

Definitely want to iron everything out!

Windows 7 RC1 x64

Not sure how many lines I tested, probably more than 18k though. Hope you get it sorted or can replicate it.
Vadi2009-11-17 16:03:40
Yep, got it. Thanks!
Daganev2009-11-17 20:04:08
very cool, can you run it from a flashdrive?
Vadi2009-11-17 20:47:21
I don't see why not, it's entirely self-contained. Just need to copy the stuff from your computer to usb

So far I'm very impressed with Mudlet! I just might be switching once I figure out how to open the channel window I need, and a couple other things! I read the whole manual and learned quite a bit about Lua from it. Good work Vadi!

Awesome client, just what I was looking for on my Mac. Thanks for the hard work!

YAY Mudlet 1.0! Now if only someone would publish a system I can finally enter the fray of combat.
Daganev2009-11-19 02:10:33
If someone gives me a Zmud system I'll port it over. (sorry don't know what scripts Mush client systems are made in)
