@ Ikkan - check out Murder City Devils. Not exactly "pirate metal" but they are this great combo of garage punk and creepy organ. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vz375utJsWs

Some of you might like the Capricorns. Instrumental, melodic metal. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKrD1MEBdfU

For some reason MGMT got way more famous than their inspiration, The Knife. Those of you into the mellow, slightly electronic stuff, check them out. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ow0bA4H3BQ...feature=related

Tervic, I forgot to mention this group, but I saw them when I was in Mongolia and fell in love with their amazing modern use of traditional techniques. I think you'll like them. Anyone who's seen the (amazing) movie Mongol, also has heard some of their stuff! Altan Urag - http://www.altanurag.mn/en-video.htm

This might be a stretch, but the last two posters both mentioned liking a bit of mellow stuff - if you're any fan of the Wallflowers, ala "One Headlight", maybe look into Tiger Lou. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLv-1zohA_4

Edit: also, because I haven't gotten to mention him yet, and I really do just adore him...

Astronautalis: Addicted to this song.Kinda Cold War Kids sound. His rapping is just...amazing wordsmithing..

(Think Fort Minor but with far superlative rhymes and more diverse mixing)

Emilie Autumn

Victoriandustrial <3. Her newer music is much... harsher, one might say, with less classical and more industrial influence than her older songs. See the album Opheliac in contrast to Enchant. And, of course, she does use the harpsichord brilliantly.

I would suggest Ayria in a similar genre.

Xandria - sorta in the same broad genre as Nightwish and Within Temptation, though the singer is not quite so operatic. Lots of African and east Indian themed stuff, though a number of traditional ballads too. Dunno what to suggest here, kinda a broad pick.

If you like these three, I would suggest Epica (Blank Infinity, Quietus, and Fools of Damnation are good introductions - the band has a bit of a Celtic influence) and Sirenia (I suggest starting with My Mind's Eye or One by One) as well.

Silentium - a darker version of the same previous genre, they have a male singer that occasionally complements the female one, and an awesome brooding cello line. I suggest Frostnight to start!

Thank you, so much, for the introduction. I'm enamoured already.

Edited to add song suggestions.

MONGOLIA!? Why do I feel like I'm part of a very small minority that never gets to travel? sad.gif

Kickass music, though.

Also, how is The Knife not famous!? I <3 their music, esp. Marble House.
