Not really, no.
Rika2009-12-09 23:01:47
Mirami isn't "dangerous" for scum to have but rather "not useful" if she is scum.
Unknown2009-12-09 23:08:13
Yeah, so like. I don't understand why we're discussing her, in the context of "who we should lynch cause it'd be bad if scum have that power" thing.

That's why I'm voting Shiri. That was his idea.

Darn login-glitch and deleting my post
So, what I was going to say was essentially this:
We have a 15/17 odds of failure today, as we're guessing. I'd rather take my 75% chance of guessing right by investigating somebody overnight, and come back with the results. If we're still suspicious, I can investigate again.
Basically... I don't like 2/17 odds, when we can improve them.

Question for the big bird: Are we able to distinguish whether someone wash smashed, eat, doused, burned alive or shuriken'd in the jugular when turn up/fail to turn up dead?
Vhaas2009-12-09 23:52:02
Oh wait. That's an utterly stupid question. Ignore it.
Unknown2009-12-10 00:01:25
People just seem to be following Shiri's move to "look for useless people", I guess.
If that's what you think, Romertien, why wait? I didn't see anything that specified whether your power was limited in use, or whether it was night or day only. Could ask if you want to make use of it post haste.

It frustrates me a bit that we've had 6 pages, with most of it being fluff, so I can't really get a read on anyone but Shiri and Kira.

Setzer
I disagree.
QUOTE
More than anyone else around, you are comfortable with uncertainty and risk. Your abilities are powerful, but unreliable. In this setting, you can determine a person's alignment. Sorta. You have a 50% chance of correctly determining alignment, 25% chance to guess town, and 25% chance to guess scum.
The problem is not that Mirami is "not useful if she is scum," but that her usage is dangerous whether or not she is scum. 1/2 of the time her answer will not be based on the person's actual alignment. 1/4 of the time it will be plain incorrect. Again, those odds plus the fact that she very well could be scum, means that there is a 32% chance she will give us inaccurate information, (supposing the scum does lie, though even if they didn't, they wouldn't aim to help us). Slightly less than one third.
Tl;dr - Mirami has a better chance of misleading us than monks have to crit (ok, admittedly I don't know about that). This doesn't mean we ought to lynch her, but that we ought not to rely on her power unless we have a couple others going in its favor.
Rika2009-12-10 00:53:23
You know, just because her results are potentially wrong doesn't mean we have to lynch her. We could just not listen to her?
Mirami2009-12-10 00:56:49
Exactly. I'd rather take my 75% chance than take a shot in the dark, but that might just be me.
RULES QUESTIONS:
1: How do people use powers that don't have a syntax/aren't expressly written in the first post? Do we PM you? Is there a required syntax?
2: Are there time restrictions/frequency restrictions on abilities like mine that aren't explicitly stated? (If I take my role literally, I can ask as often as I want, for as many people as I want. Is this the case?)

Dangerous insofar as to the extent we're willing to trust dicey interpretations.
I kind of find myself agreeing with Shiri's logic, awkward wording aside. And despite the fact that it nudges me towards the chopping block.

That is what I said, isn't it?
But other than some slight, questionably meaningful exchanges of words... I don't see a reason to suspect her any more or less than the others who have been subject to suspicion thus far. She's been relatively quiet in comparison to Shiri and Kira, which could just as easily be a point against her.

I thought I specified nightly target for yours. It would seem not, though! You have a night ability, and I don't much care how you format a PM to me.

*shimmers into existence* I'm going to advocate that he post it in red, bold, and in the largest, screamiest font possible. *fades from view*
Rika2009-12-10 01:50:31
Btw, shiribot should pin this.
Daganev2009-12-10 01:53:57
Why would he do that?
Vhaas2009-12-10 02:09:55
I've reread Shiri's posts. Intent be what it may, I agree with his reasoning and find the slightest inkling that battening the hatches wouldn't be a bad idea right about now. Unless scum lets something slip or does something idiotic, we won't have any real leads until the second day. This should narrow them down.
