This part is incorrect. It may not be fun for -you-, but it's fun for plenty of other people.

It's fun for the two-thirds of the game population living where you live, sure, but how long does it stay fun when your foes are all gone?

I mean, I love combat, but I love a lot of other things about the game, and I don't even get involved in half of what's available. If people are bored, it's because they're just not trying, choosing to focus on that one thing instead.

Incorrect. I do not have fun. It's why I'm not playing. Group combat tends to be pretty boring to me, unless the teams are even. And I've yet to see an enemy group who is willing to fight while it's even.

Mostly I was talking of people like Narsrim or Ruiku, who run around and ninja tiny people for lolz who have the fun. I know there are people on 'my' side who do it too, but I haven't experienced it, so I'm not going to toss around names.

The fact of the matter is, very few people are interested in making conflict interesting or fun, it's just 'Either we easily win or we don't bother'.

Mostly I was talking of people like Narsrim, Urazial, Celina, Xenthos, Shuyin, Nienla, Sidd, Munsia, Viynain, Thoros, Ceren, Ethelon or Ruiku.
Or maybe like Azoth, who likes to kill a lone denizen loyal to Celest a few times in a weave, just because he can kill the mob before someone gets to him.
Or like Talan, who raises Marani 2-3 times a weave just to watch people die as Marani mows them down, and actively empowers Marani just so it will be harder.

Let's expand that a bit, shall we?

Do you see what I did there?
Shaddus2009-12-16 01:16:00
I think everyone just needs to find a way to entertain themselves. Some day, just sit at a stage and watch all the plays there. Quit thinking that you have to cause trouble at other's expense just to have fun.

Also, quit prodding at a sleeping bear and then being surprised if the bear turns around and bites you when you aren't looking.
Morgfyre2009-12-16 01:16:06
Just out of curiosity what sort of things do you think would make you look forward to playing more? Obviously it's a subjective thing and you'll all have different viewpoints which I'm interested in hearing. I also mean more RP wise not so much coding or skill changes etc.

I think your "a bit" over-expanded. A bit.

I'd like to see our GH wall-things finished. sad.gif

Beyond that, little org-based mini-events are always fun. I'm not so sure about things like the Scrying Pool in EthSeren which is a bit excessive, but mini-events don't really have to give such things.
Kaalak2009-12-16 01:20:23
Slightly off topic, but how many of you will be playing MKO along with lusternia?

On topic: Well regarding new stuff, the combat consolidation has been in the works for some time. Wouldn't you expect to see a resurgence in combat focused players and PvP after that gets wrapped up?

How many people on your list even do this when there isn't an event going on that requires it? I mean, some of the people on the list don't even play any more.

Now, now, I've been reading your Glom bitterness posts all the way back from double xp weekend, but I have to call BS on this one. As of this writing, at 5 pm pacific, which I think is a good peak time, there are 19 gloms, 22 serens, and 22 mags all logged in right now. Generally, (I assure you, I've got a good amount of login time, heh), the proportions stay relatively the same throughout the day.

Glom really doesn't have any huge numbers by any stretch of imagination is what I want to say.

Anyway, carry on, Lusternia is as fun as you make it. If you're bored, play another game for a while. I can understand why people whose sole purpose is to log in, gank bashers randomly/make people miserable/run in and out of territory repeatedly and so on, then when they can't, they qq, get bored though.

Yeah, I tried to inflate the list with Magnagorans to make Merik and yourself feel better, and not like it was all Glomdoring's fault.

Make me feel better for what? tongue.gif I haven't killed a demon / angel since the last time the Avatars died and we needed essence.

I was just pointing out your list is a bit screwy, and since you agree-- carry on!

The statement in my signature is true. A few people from each org cause trouble, it reflects on the rest of the org (who really wants no part of it), and crap happens. Azoth may not like being jumped by Joe Blow the Paladin, but because Celina was on Celestia earlier causing trouble (3-4 times) , Azoth gets jumped. Joe feels as though harming Azoth is like striking at Celina in revenge, and "he gets his". It's true everywhere. Shofangi sneaks into Mag and slays Tunika, now ur'Guard feels as though he has to slay this Moondancer over here picking herbs in the road. People simply don't take the time to think about the repercussions of their actions. As for the revenge, it's not personal; but the person being "jumped" takes it that way.

Honestly, I feel your sig is spot-on. Lusternia's been that way for-ever though. Even back to pre-Glomdoring.
Daganev2009-12-16 01:39:33
I would strongly recommend playing less often to cure boredom.

Here is why.

1. Lusternia is a game that requires other people. But waiting for other people is boring. The less hours of time you play (and the more regular your schedule) the less waiting you have to do. (cause you can plan when to do things)

2. Brain overload. Much of Lusternia is the same thing over and over again, in only slightly different ways. After playing the game for X amount of time, you are no longer "exploring". When you stop exploring you get bored faster.

3. It's healthier for you anyways smile.gif

To the first point, you need to talk to your guild patron about that. Really nothing anyone can do about that.

As to the latter, I think you underestimate - or simply cannot comprehend - the amount of work that goes into even 'little' events. The staff isn't very large to begin with, and you regularly hear us say we have a lot on our plate - we do!

As this is something that comes up from time to time:

Personally, I love all the aspects of events, even on our side. Unfortunately they are a lot (a LOT) of work, from designing them, trying to make them 'fun', trying to come up with some 'cool' way of running it or an 'awesome' new means of resolution.

I hear people say they'd like to see something other than bashing/influencing involved in events, like poetry/song contests - unfortunately, from memory, the last time we did one of them, there were about four entries across two categories. And of course, even when we do something like this, we're lambasted because there was a 'reward' at the end (new skillsets!).

Off-hand, I remember the Tempest event in Celest (about 16 months ago) took about a month of planning, designing, etc just to get the event ready to run - that was a pretty short event, too, I think it lasted all of four days. The Toy Wars didn't take so long, only a month or so, and last year's chaos involving the Divine Fulcrux etc took at least two months of planning (more, I think). Events aren't Pringles - once we pop, we're entirely capable of stopping!

I think on top of it, it's pretty hard to come up with a new 'theme' or content.

And now, that said - there is always a possibility someone will jump to run an event if they like the idea. Think you've got a great idea for a hot new event? Great! Post it to the Plots news board, in game. That's what it is there for. cool.gif

Heck, you can post whatever ideas/suggestions you have there - maybe you don't have a great idea for the next hot new event that makes the pixies in Serenwilde swoon, but you think you have a great idea for a quest mechanic for an event or something - post that too! Think you've got a cool idea for a prize? Go ahead and post it! Think you've got an idea for an area that'd be awesome? POST IT!

Believe me, we read everything that goes up. The good and the bad.

And just because you're not sure you like an idea 110%, doesn't mean it's bad - we might not (okay, we probably won't) run an event verbatim of your suggestion, but it definitely gives us a jumping off point to roll with. Not to say the initial idea is bad, but very rarely do any of our original ideas look a whole lot like the finished product.

I also welcome (and encourage!) anyone who thinks they can 'make the cut', as it were, to put in an application during our next round of ephemeral applications. You'll get to see the work that really goes into it, and bandy about some of those event ideas rolling around in your head. smile.gif

That said, I'm also going to reiterate what Morgfyre asked - what do you WANT to see? What do you believe would make Lusternia better? Don't want to post your idea here, fine - there's the Plots board. cool.gif

Edit: Wow. That ended up being a lot longer than I thought it would be! Sorry everyone!

I have, a few times.

I think we're up to close to a year and a half at this point. Real life time. sad.gif

Busy Divine Patrons are busy. Busy Ephemerals are busy, too.
