Saw this at 12:01. I can't stop talking about it really. It's as huge as the first Matrix or Jurassic Park in terms of visual effects and probably one of the best films in the last five years, maybe ten. No rain-forest preaching, story is solid, and the 3D is used for visual depth, not arrows flying out of the screen at your head.

Just amazing.

I went to a 12:01 as well (though it ended up being a 12:30 due to "technical difficulties"). The 3D was totally worth every penny, and I regret absolutely nothing despite having to run on 3 hours of sleep.

I'm going to try and see this before I head home for the holidays, great to hear it's good!

People will -not- shut up about it, it's getting me pumped too.

This movie was frickin' awesome, it was like Speaker for the Dead with dragons.

I saw it today for my birthday. The visuals were truly amazing, and I really liked the beautiful planet they created. However, the plot was a little too Pocahontas-meets-FernGully for me.

They took so many risks with the filmmaking that they took virtually no risks with the story, and that's fine -- it's a solid story even if it is all recycled, and apart from a few corny bits, they did it well, movingly, strongly. I think they're not going to get enough credit for a few of the nicely done and innovative details in the story since the larger part is so familiar. But anyway, this isn't a movie to see for a fresh new story, it's a movie to see because it's just plain beautiful, and engaging, and breathtaking. And it's definitely one to see in the theater and in 3D if possible; don't wait for the DVD even if you have a 62" screen.

Saw it today. Was awesome.

This movie was described to me as 'Dances with Wolves' in space with like 20 minutes of action near the end

It sucked a lot less than I thought it would. content.gif

Saw it not in 3D before I realized it was even in 3D, and still loved it.

Going to go see it in 3D soon.

I normally hate hate hate hate hate unnecessary 3D in movies (I thought it was a stupid gimmick that added nothing to Up, for instance, which would have been just as good without it - better, actually, because I wouldn't have to have worn the stupid glasses) but Avatar actually used it really well and with subtlety.

Usually 3d is a gimmick to make things "pop out" of the screen. In Avatar it was used to give the scenes depth, like you were looking at it in the same room.

I laughed so hard. Not one other person in the (packed) theater laughed at all. I kept laughing anyway!

Sherlock Holmes has nothing to do with that movie. At all.

I FINALLY saw this on Saturday. Imax 3d version. Very awesome.

Also, it's mind blowing that in about 31 days, Avatar has grossed over 1.6 billion dollars. That is insane.
