Lehki is right, you wont start getting an even spread in a small population.
I'd muchly prefer it if it was the same as they did for fathers day, type in a command, once, for a reward, wouldn't have to be a set reward like then, just one, nice gift for anyone around, fair and all that, y'know?

Yeah, exactly, that would be very fair. So many people seem to be bitter about this. I'm still confused though. I do understand how it's not an even spread, but it still doesn't seem like chance to me, because IIRC last year it was the same people getting showered with gifts. I could be wrong though. The only ones who seem to care anyway are those who consistently get nothing.

I would not mind a choice, say you have to type something in so everyone gets something then you have a choice of said items from small common, not so common to maybe rarer stuff. Yet I don't see that going to work out
Lawliet2009-12-26 02:06:40
If that could replace gnome events or something, where it happened multiple times and you had, say, 2 minutes to type something in, that'd be fantastic, even if you just ended up with a regular gnome present with all the pitfalls it'd still be way fairer.

The current system is alright, as long as it random. But when you are in the same room with person X and Ironbeard visits that person for the second and third time you begin to wonder if he is random or not. Seen the same thing last year. Don't get me wrong, Ironbeard did visit me twice, got some random vials on one visit, dingbats on the other. its more than I had at the start of the event so I try to think of the positive. Sometimes its hard when you hear of people pulling out a few artifacts, gold dingbats ... but still.

I just don't like how gnomes are placed. They spawn in certain established areas, and some people know these areas, so they end up getting 6+ gnomes per drop easily. Either make gnomes truly random spawn, or go to the other idea here. When person sees the, "OMG SHOUT MERRY CHRISTMAS FOR A PRESENT!" and they do, it randomly pulls one of those presents out of the pool of presents and gifts it to them. I mean, either way the game is giving away all this stuff, and finding the gnomes isn't really an event. It's just people running around, some with a significant advantage.
Do note though that it's really awesome of the administration to have it at all, and I do appreciate it. I'd just like to see a truly random distribution of gnomes or an alternative mechanism put in place.

Will the gnomes still appear or have they already left?

Most of us who've gotten six or eight (or more) presents from gnomes haven't gotten them all in one drop. Sometimes we get lucky and find two, or maybe three, but I've never heard of six in one drop.
On the other hand, some people also know hard-to-get-to places where you can find gnomes from previous drops, too, which can stockpile (Like the other side of Malacoda).
In short, gnomes can be found- you just need to settle on one or two 'spots' where they come, and always get there first. You won't always get a present, but you will eventually.

Someone should get coal. Unless it happened to me; then I would cry.
Unknown2009-12-26 06:46:19
For every gnome present you snag, the chances of you getting varying large amounts of coal should go up by 5%.
Sounds reasonable enough!

The thing is, not everyone knows these 'spots'

And those that do are almost never willing to share them.

Maybe the gnomes could be released without fanfare. You wouldn't want to release them all at once in every area or the first people to realize this might sweep the mud.
I think this is pretty much as fair as it gets. With Ironbeard everyone has a equal? chance of receiving a gift. With the gnomes you have to work for your gifts but for me, this went a lot better than the toy event where you had to be fairly tough and even then some demigods were able to amass hundreds of dingbats.
Spots are easy to find; you can either find your own or scry someone who has found one.

I kept getting scried. But I was also letting some people who weren't getting gnomes know my spots too, so it got harder to get them first. Oh well.

Meant to reply to this before. I can assure you, there are people that get at least 3 per drop, minimum.

Eh, it sounds like gnomes are bugging up because of the new cities. Groups of like 8 gnomes are being found in one room, outside the entries to the cities.
Rika2009-12-27 06:58:45
Had one gnome stolen from me, but I got another which got me another pipe rune.

Yeah, they can fire forges and ovens to make weapons and food!

Depends on how they are being distributed at the end of the day. if it's a respawn they should be able to make them randomly pop or maybe have a prog that makes the little guys hyper and run around like loti spores for a while before slowing down. If it's a prog that dumps them then a command to randomize the locations within certain zones should not be too difficult. Etc
Also I'm up to like... six or seven but I gave one away and let someone else influence a gnome or two. The only artifact I've received is a bubble pipe (I had one of the first) the rest has been gold, poisons and pocketbelts.
Riluna2009-12-27 07:25:57
That's really cool that there are people like that here. Most people seem to jealously guard that knowledge as a secret.
Heaven forbid they get one less gnome while some of us haven't seen a single one, nor had a single Ironbeard visit, during any of the three events they played where he showed up over the past year.
