Meh, how could it be difficult to code? It doesn't seem like you've actually thought about it at all. Just have it say "you cannot zap that person for 1 second" (sic), or have it delay the zap landing for 1 second, so that the person can sip health between the shots doing 40%+ of their hp. It isn't as necessary for weaker line of sight attacks as it is for an area-based zap because those things have more limitations as well as being weaker (as I already said really, but you guys seem to have chosen to ignore that part of the argument).
More like we've been hit by enough of each to know you're just plain wrong.

My idea: Leave this combat talk for the envoys.

Damn, I want one of those pillows. Simple idea: tell us when the chair gets unshocked.

Actually, a Terror Coven of Nightkisses or a Rage Coven of Moonbursts hurts much more than a zapattack. I'm fairly certain staffcasts are stronger compared to zaps, too. Both Terror/Rage and zaps will not work on targets who are indoors or shielded.

You mean like when you're told you're wrong and that they're really not weaker? Which, oddly enough, undermines your entire argument / point; so I suppose that's why you'd ignore it.
Sheesh. Kind of feels like a brick wall, though.
Edit: You can't zap someone who is indoors either, Alacardael, so it's the same restriction there.
Essentially, if you want to address ranged combat attacks, then actually address ranged combat attacks. By all means, feel free! I'm sure people would give the ideas consideration. However, half-baked solutions that only go after a tiny part of it are not a solution; all that it means is that you'll be back here in a couple of days complaining once more about the next "OP group ability".

Drinking alcohol should restore a small amount of ego. Would have some effect on combat, but if they do it too often they'll end up too drunk to fight!

Since it got buried, I'd like to reiterate my simple idea of inserting a line break between the character description and the list of worn clothing/jewelry/containers in LOOK AT .
(I think that, in the future, even ideas that are simple in principle should go in their own thread if they're the least bit controversial — calls to nerf a high-level combat power in any way definitely fall under that category. Just my opinion, mind you.)

Or you could just make new threads for ideas you want to get serious consideration anyway, since this thread is a total dump with all the arguments and not-even-remotely-simple ideas in it. Someone who actually knows may feel like contradicting me on this but if I was seriously interested in implementing some player's genius I'd rather be able to quickly browse thread titles than have to sift through this lot.
(I realise this post is kind of counterproductive in the sense that it's contributing to the dump-ness, but I think it's worth considering and will help in the long run!)

I don't see why you can't have a little discussion in here. An idea thread that exists for ideas to come in and die isn't so nice.
I agree with a line break for clothing. I've seen some people do it themselves, but since my wrapwidth is different than the default, so it just looks odd.
But what I would really like, would be a line break for clothes, and another line break for jewelry. People wear so much jewelry in this game that you can't separate their clothes and get an idea for what they're wearing from it.

Agreed on all points. (But where will you put worn artifact thingies?)

I've been trying to figure out how to do this. I don't think spaces work (extras seem to be removed by the system), and neither do blank characters (hold ALT, press numpad 0160).
Even if it looks weird for folks with different word-wrapping, it's better than nothing in the meantime. If anyone knows, please share.
Lendren2010-04-07 23:36:38
You can't put in a true line break, but you can put a row of 75 dashes.

Which just looks weird if you're not on the default wrap width.

Add Fire/Air/Vortex/Continuum to the planar quest for collegiums.

It doesn't for Celestian Novices either.
As for the line break, I use 80 dashes. Default wrapwidth is 80, it'll hit anything less, and Mush+Treant uses 80 to wrap, so it'll at least hit the biggest bulk of the playerbase. If I'm feeling really adventurous I figure out how many characters I need from the end of my desc to the end of a line and do 80 plus that.
