I would settle for resulting in a list that doesn't arbitrarily cut off mid-appearance/short desc. There's room on the line and nothing after the description, so why does it cut off?
One thing I've noticed is that some designs, I think they're the original designs put in, will follow your wrapwidth but the designs submitted by players have wrapwidths that don't. Silliness!

It's the same with helpfiles. HELP DOMOTHS for instance has one section that isn't wrapped while the rest of the helpfile is.

Idea #1: Update the AB files or messages from the Dramatics Storytell skill to make clear that Storytell does not make the denizens worth more experience, nor make the empowerment last longer, nor anything else beneficial to the person doing the influence, so that people won't keep using it as if it were. You can tell people, but there's always someone else who you haven't told yet who makes the obvious assumption that the skill must have some use and this must be it.
Idea #2: Better yet, make it so that those skills, which are otherwise useless, are beneficial in the ways people tend to assume they will be. Making the influence harder should make it worth more experience. Maybe it could have another advantage, such as making the mob gain or lose more when empowered or weakened, and give more gold when begged. (Harder to think of how you can provide a numerical improvement to paranoia or seduction though. Maybe make them last longer?)

At a glance at the ab files, the skills make denizens harder to influence, or so it would seem to me. Heh.
Amusing people would make things harder on themselves needlessly.

Lendren2010-04-15 14:40:24
It does, but most people look at that and say, "why would you ever want to do that?" and conclude that the unstated part is that making it harder to influence them must make them worth more experience. (Just like how empowering something before you kill it makes it worth more experience since it makes the killing harder.) So they storytell guards, not out of a spiteful attempt to prevent guard empowering, but just thinking it's helping them when it's actually hurting.
(Incidentally, no one's ever come up with a circumstance where making denizens harder to influence with no other effect would be particularly useful. Stalling until your influencer can arrive in a village in play, maybe? That's the closest anyone's suggested to me.)

No idea, personally - I suppose stalling a village influence would be the main one. I doubt you'd really 'stop' them from influencing with it, but you'd probably slow them down a little.
Welcome to pester someone into envoying ideas for it - though I personally am of the opinion influence already nets more then enough benefits (for example charity gets gold, experience and esteem that can be sold for more gold).

Lendren2010-04-15 15:14:33
Meh, something like that will never get through envoy. (And the "too much benefit" problem is easily fixed: reduce all benefits by 10%, then let storytell increase them back to what they were.)
Anyway, what about idea #1, just making the AB file a tiny bit more explicit about this? That's not too much to ask, is it?

Nope!

Would it be possible for the guild ledger to allow us to see what a novice is typing. Something that would prompt them to agree to let us see. Spent 20 minutes trying to get a novice to wield his lute... finally had to bug spindle to watch what he was typing.....
Everiine2010-04-16 11:45:11
Sounds like a job best left to the Guides-- I've never had someone who I couldn't eventually get to type what I was asking for, but even if I did, I'm not sure this is the best solution.

No. There's no prospect of us allowing this.
There's considerable scope for abuse. The guides are vetted and monitored; guild administrators are not.

Prereqs could be hard-coded into clan induction. For example Golgothura would automatically be booted from Ebonglom Aetherfarers, The Swarm, or any other commune specific clans. after leaving Glom.

I understand. Didnt really cross my mind it could be abused. I was just about to lose my mind last night. He was a very nice novice and wasnt frustrated with him. I just got frustrated cause it was 20 minutes to get him to wield his lute....

They included a sneak preview of the Eternal Flame picture by the same artist as all of the other Nexus pictures in the newsletter, so I suspect they're going onto the website/merchandise at some point in the future.
But when, Estarra, when?

I've always been sympathetic to enchanters about this, but having endured it a bit, I'm even more so. There's no good reason why the syntax shouldn't be ENCHANT - WITH POWERSTONE
or ENCHANT - WITH RESERVES
. Gah.

Should be that way when mallet forging too. I sometimes forget to wield a new powerstone and there goes my reserves.
