It's funny that as a Cantor (Bard Archetype) I am unable to get to any of the linked Planes for the Pool of Stars, but if I travel to Serenwilde (or any other org) and use their nexus, I can.
This, more than anything, screams Problem to me.
Razenth2010-05-24 23:26:19
You can go to say, the Megalith and be able to go to their linked planes?
I thought you could only transverse to adjacent or to linked if you have the right skills. Like, I can use the Megalith to go to Nil, but not Earth. That tells you why you can use the Trees to get the Ethereal though.

Now there's no reason why a second set would have any practical benefit other than fashion.
Assuming you can't give the second set to your buddy?

Guardians can get to Cosmic planes through their nexus, with Gate in Cosmic. Mages can get to Elemental with Gate in Elemental. Druids and Wiccans can get to Ethereal with Gate in Nature. Nexus in planar allows you to use other people's nexuses, but only to get to adjacent planes. Communes are the only nexuses that actually link to a plane adjacent to Prime.
I think commune warriors, bards, and monks can use EtherGate in Planar to utilize their own nexus to go to Ethereal. City warriors/monks/bards need Nexus in Planar, because even though they can use their own nexus, it doesn't link to Ethereal and they don't have the skills to allow them to skip a plane or two that Mages and Guardians do. There's a reason Magnagora used to have rifts from Mag to Ethereal to Earth.
It's been silly, but I've never heard an outcry, so either it's not as bad as it sounds, I'm wrong, or people just aren't complaining.
Razenth2010-05-24 23:48:09
I'm more commenting on the fact that Arin said he could transverse to any of the planes linked to the Pool via any nexus other than the Pool as a bard. I know the semantics of plane travel through nexii.

Still do, unless someone unravelled them recently.

Last I checked the Meadows to Earth was down, but someone could have rewoven it recently.
I don't think he implied he could go to any plane. He said he couldn't get to the planes linked to the Pool, i.e. Water and Celestia and Astral. And he can't, because they're not adjacent to the Pool on Prime. He'd have to go up through a Tree and use the archway and then proceed up that way.

CODE
The Lich Gate.
A sickly sweet odour, the smell of decomposing corpses, wafts in from a war shrine of Fain nearby. The bright sun shines down, blanketing you with its life-giving warmth. Breaking through the dimensions, a planar rift slashes through the air here. A statue of Nakarel stands here, memorializing his noble spirit. A shuttered glass gas lamp lies dark and unlit atop a tall, ornately gilded post.
You see exits leading east, southwest, and northwest.
transverse ethereal
You reach out to the planar gate and find the link to the ethereal plane. Pulsating energy flares throughout your field of vision, and you find yourself tumbling through the aether pathways.
Within a crystalline meadow.
The corrosiveness of the taint sickens the land. Breaking through the dimensions, a planar rift slashes through the air here. A plaque is affixed to the top of a sparkling, crystal plinth, void of inscription.
You see exits leading north, east, south, and west.
You have recovered equilibrium.

A dark foyer.

Still there. People were unweaving them a few months ago, so they're not in the original spot on Ethereal, but they're there.

Sorry, mistake. I can get to Ethereal. But still why shouldn't Bards, Palas, Monks with Nexus be able to get somewhere when they have the Nexus skill.
Or simply add a Planar skill to let everybody travel to linked planes for an org, eg water and celestia for Celest; Nil and Earth for Mag etc.
Razenth2010-05-25 21:40:58
Because in the old days, only city warriors had that problem, i.e. 33% of 66% (22%) of the playerbase, and it was flavorful. I guess after monks and bards came out, no one decided to take a look at the issue. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal anyways. Do what Mag does, or just bum a ride off of a Celestine or Aqua or something.

Or JOIN QUEUE FOR ORGBIX.
It will thin out. Some day.

Paladins should be warriors, just sayin'.

I've heard the idea mentioned a few times, but each time, it's just the cities that have "connected" planes. What do the communes get? Hmm? (Just one reason I'm against the idea and don't believe it'll be accepted.)

The ability to use Nexus in Planar to access linked orgs at city Nexuses. I'd love that ability, and I'm not even a warrior/monk/bard.

Yes. If you changed Nexus to allow that for people in the city, communes would get the change too. It would be nice for times when Glomdoring or someone has Faethorn in lockdown, so I don't have to borry a cubix from someone.
Sakr2010-05-27 10:54:03
It would be nice to be able to touch various parts or lets say tattoos, and it comes out as an attack.
For example lets take bob. Bob is a guardian, of lets say hallifax.
Bob looks at you squarely and says, "You don't want to ***k with me."
Bob flourishes his right forearm and touches a tattoo in the shape of a phoenix.
You see a phoenix come out from the tattoo and attack you, burning you.
***
Firstaid
***
You have level 2 burns.
Then in an epic fight scene, you would see one person turning around and touching various parts of himself or herself for various attacks.
And of course.
Bob flourishes his left foot and bends down to reach it, but cannot reach past his knees.
Bob has died. You see the death in the pinnacle of stupidity.
But really, how cool would that be? Is it possible to create a system in order to attack other people or denzins with touching parts of your body, without the added text of "casts his hand back and juts it outwards, burning you with blue fire".
And you can get tattoos made for specific purposes, as in real tattoos that people can examine, not ones in your description. Imagine having a fight, and in a spit of anger, you remove your shirt and places your fingers on your shoulders, summoning a cyclone to decimate your enemies...
I think i'm procrastinating too much. Back to art final...
