I don't find it strange that people who don't aetherhunt are weighing in on the topic. We play the game, too, and we hear from others just how great aetherhunting is, not to mention seeing the free scripts posted. Just like it's not surprising that everyone who aetherhunts will defend the current setup because it benefits them and their friends greatly.
It should be on par with bashing or influencing to the point where people choose to aetherhunt primarily because it's something they enjoy and it happens to be a viable method for acquiring experience, gold, esteem, essence, or whatever. Don't nerf it back into being unused, but don't leave it as something that people rave about because they went from level 92 to 93 in an hour.

Other methods also don't require getting other people to actually do it with you. There are a lot of days when I just can't get the crew for a hunt. And, even beyond that, have you even tried to co-ordinate one of these things? It's a bloody headache.
If the experience is "as good" as the other methods, I'm certainly not ever going to bother with it again. It's way more trouble than it's worth if the gain is the same, or even if it's close. I personally feel the experience is fine as-is given the requirements / death / etc (and this is with us only getting out to hunt 3-4 hours a week), because... as I said, even at the current rate, people don't always want to do it.
I note that you all referenced my marathon abash before-- the only reason it was worth it at that time was a double experience boost. None of us would have been out there for that long without that.

lmao, you're really not the one to be making this argument
Kalin Disati (Male Human).
He is 27 years old, having been born on the 19th of Avechary, 228 years after the Coming of Estarra.
He is ranked 132nd in Lusternia.

Also if you turn off exp boosts in aetherspace I can guarantee nobody will be doing it anymore. You will just make aetherspace that mechanic that nobody remembers again.
Uh, it's just as good with or without those boosts. I guess humans would have less of an incentive to do it.

Yes, and I got most of that... warrior bashing and influencing. Thank you for also supporting the misinformation act of Lusternia.

You may.
Gregori2010-01-19 22:57:52
Also how old was Jozan when he got demigod off influencing? That's right... I said influencing, but hey it's not like influencing is an easy road to demigod, right?

I'd still do it as a faeling. Maybe not as a human.
Sarrasri2010-01-19 22:58:07
Can't really use age as a factor anyways. Forren got demi by the time he was 30 IG if I remember right. That was before aetherspace bashing.

So now there is an age requirement on demigod?
Lehki2010-01-19 23:02:19
Give despawn timers to all aether mobs and vortexes please. Check around any major dock or or flight route and there will probably be at least a handful of beasts and HUGE mess of vortexes that there would be almost no hope of ever draining completely.

Good idea! Your level shouldn't exceed your age, amirite?

Given that you will make up to 10 more vortexes every RL day... that "almost no hope" is "really no hope," heh.

This would be nice too. Also, to soften the nerf, this could also be added:
When a beast is summoned via siphon, it gets flagged with the siphoner. When a beast flagged thusly dies, the siphoner with that flag gets the full exp value instead of half. That way the active siphoners enjoy the same benefits as other active modules without giving room for abuse (like summoning dozens of beasts and then just leaving them there.)

Back in my day, we got demigod through endless spawns of kethuru in the snow while there's an earthquake and mags griefing us 24/7.
Stop trying to bring up irrelevant topics like the past (as in how you got demi) or age or anything else.

Seriously this whole thread is a case of 'Waaaah they got demi faster than meeeeee".
Hell, Rika Xion bashed with construct bonus back when Xion was bugged so that elementals kept respawning and that was some delicious Experience in itself.
Iasmos guard influenced to demigod.
Diamondais sat on a ship for demigod.
Vendetta virtually permalinkd astral.
Gregori got ascended to demigod.
There are easy roads in every exp mechanic. Unless you are going to crack down on all of them. Then you shouldn't be cracking down on any of them. As I said before, this ship sailed long ago. You missed the chance to curtail demigods back when you were giggling about the fast experience you were getting to be a demigod yourself.

Xenthos2010-01-19 23:11:26
To be fair, Iasmos wasn't giggling. He just sat around complaining about how long it took to get through Titan while people bashed (not abashed, just regular bashed) and influenced past him, heh.
I think that some of the people who actually put in the time and really pushed for it have some reason to be a bit sour, but... at the same time, they can also benefit from the essence gain (who doesn't love essence?). There are enough restrictions on abashing already IMO. And everyone gets the chance to try to benefit from it, it's not breaking any mechanics, and you have the choice to hop on a ship and help too.

Quite inaccurate, but thanks for trying. I did more hunting than I did influencing. And, I only got to demigod at about age 180, so it's irrelevant?
This topic was guaranteed to bring strong opinions out, and these opinions are drowning out anything useful that might come out of the discussion, unfortunately. Interesting read, nonetheless.
