READ THIS
Apparently, IRE is now giving you rewards for referring people to their games. If a person is referred by you and buys credits AT ANY POINT, you get credits for it. If that person logs at least 5 hours, you get a credit. If that person makes six characters and logs five hours each on them, you get a credit for each character.
Thoughts?

What's stopping somebody from referring themself, and buying credits on the referred character (which they could then transfer to their other character), thus netting 10%? Seems a little vague...

Nothing good came from expanding the community via kongregate in Imperian. I guess it's different, since it's word of mouth.. but I can only think bad things will come from this program.

I think we got some good people from Kongregate but IRE does seem to be working on attracting a larger player base which means trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator and that is going to piss off a lot of the older players. I know IRE wants to be making the money a larger MMO makes or a casual game but they make neither.

Clearly they need ads with breasts in it.
Edit: Or as the case is, Elostian man boobs.

I'd totally buy more credits if I got screenshots of Elostian's moobs.

Meh, we're probably not that far off. We have achievements, double exp every Thursday in February, facebook contests. I might be being crotchety but it sometimes leaves a sour taste in my mouth. They can try things like that but MUDs will always be a niche. I'd also personally like for IRE games to be a damn good MUD and get a large chunk of that limited niche market then to be a poor imitation of casual games and larger MMO's with a tiny chunk of that market.

I have posted a reflink in my facebook to see what happens... but most of us have probably already tried telling our friends about Lusternia and trying to get them to play.

For the record, I love the idea.

You fail to take into account that Ileein's ad would be exactly how it would look. Regardless, I think we may be better off advertising the one thing only lusternia has:
Just imagine this with the usual Evony slogans, completely irresistable!

I'd click that.

I have nothing particularly useful to say in response to this post. I just wanted to comment on your avatar.
OMG TWEWY.
Arix2010-01-27 09:28:27
Lusternia has Dame Edna?

I like the referral idea. I know I've gotten quite a few friends to play in my time, and it's sort of about time I get some benefit from it (Most of them don't join my orgs, so RP is not a benefit )
I also like that they're going into the realm of achivements and instances, as well as rewards in IRE games. A lot of us are loyal players and have been for years, so feeling appreciated as those players is great. I don't think we really get too many negatives from advertising. It's just, as always, up to players to police how we want new people to act in our game.

As the nerd among my group of rasta stoner friends, maintaining a cool facade among them is a full-time job without inviting them to join me in taking on an alternate fantasy persona in a world of magical make-believe.
Ilyarin2010-01-27 11:14:17
Then maybe you should stop trying to maintain a "cool" facade.
(P.S., that wasn't intended as a slight. I just don't like "cool".)

Nah. The people who would like me for who I am tend to have gnarly acne and read Ctrl+Alt+Del.
