It's either random being it's a really complicated function, or they use a rand() function somewhere in there. Or it could be both! Good luck!
Random functions are not random, they use a seed of something such as the computer clock and based the number off that.
Razenth2010-02-01 21:32:29
Uhh.... duh. You think I don't know how a rand function works?

No, we all know you're as bright as a turned-off light bulb.

You wound me.

I think Guardians are going to be more crystal oriented rather than math.

well yes, since there is no such thing as random in software. Good luck finding it though
You are right for pure software, but computers can have access to true randomness. You just need an input from a physical process, such as heat fluctuations. The low bits of disk seek times are pretty random. People put random generators on the net, for example based on the decay of radioactive particles. And servers can set up to grab randomness from these automatically. So you never know, what you are seeing could be truly random.

while that is possible (and required for games of chance) it is highly unlikely Lusternia is making use of that technology.

The order of spheres in the generator is determined by a machine in Roark's basement which measures the hawking radiation emitted by the black hole at the heart of the Milky Way.

I haven't even attempted the power quest yet...I'm new and just reading about it completely terrifies me! It sounds so complicated and I would probably get lost and even more confused and oh my goodness etc etc
Basically I guess I am saying it seems super difficult and it is intimidating to me as a new player. Which really isn't a good thing.

it's rather simple to make the generator predictable by a few spheres, it's called a list. There are two ways I can think of that retain the randomness of the generator while making it predictable and both would need one.

- add a gold and/or karma output for the crystals-Cosmicmobs quest
I've had this bugged for a few weeks. It doesn't even give experience. LOL THX ADMIN. Also, on Vortex at each Fleshpot there are two morribles which give 4 power each whereas Spheres only have two Hexahedrons that give 2 power.
Unknown2010-02-02 04:23:02
Not to mention that morribles are the most powerful mobs on Vortex, and extremely difficult to solo due to their health leech, whereas hexahedrons are pretty run-of-the-mill dudes (though I guess some of the continuum mobs got buffed, I dunno which polyhedrons got what afflictions).
Genos2010-02-02 04:47:46
Oh, and there's more entities in Gaudi's nexus world than there are crystals on Halli's nexus world. It's like they don't even try to balance these things...
Doman2010-02-02 04:55:58
It's more like, Either the person who ran the main design on halli was minimalistic, and the person who did gaudi just went all out.
That, or the person who designed both was just malevolent, because, honestly, it'd be REALLY hard to do this on accident by one person

I think they first finished Gaudiguch and then got drunk and stoned before coding Hallifax. Only way I can explain the copious amounts of oversights and bugs... and Aeromancy.
Eldanien2010-02-02 05:00:12
Balance doesn't necessarily require two sides to be identical. That makes it easier, but also less interesting. We might wait until both cities are 'complete' before worrying about how they stack up to each other.
