Also if the bonus is significant players might be encouraged to join Orders just to passively generate essence like totems do for power.

I don't think it's very significant. Pretty small, actually! And it doesn't scale, just the decay on non-affinity'd.

And I don't think the secretive spy-roleplay will be stifled with this, personally, as it's still an option. One will simply need to work so as not to be a burden.
Kaalak2010-02-11 07:36:27

If its insignificant why have it at all?
Eventru2010-02-11 07:37:42
I said it wasn't significant, I didn't say it was insignificant. The drain, however, quickly adds up - especially if they hold much rank in your order.
Kante2010-02-11 07:38:49
I'm not exactly partial to the idea, buuuuut...

You guys always bitch about how there's no RP left in Lusty any more, or how everything's always mechanically inclined and therefore there's no flavour.

Then, they add something that produces a small amount of flavour, and you decide you prefer the taste of water as opposed to the juice.

...

They just added more mechanics and removed RP. You just watered down water to save money and people are fit to complain that the central L.A. tap water is ruining the taste of the Fiji.

Differing opinions on what "flavour" is, I guess. But flavour can be coded!

Edit: My point still stands, though. You guys bitch entirely too much, and I bitch too much about how much you guys bitch.

Variety is the spice of life. Look at the number of active Divine in each city or commune.

Three: Serenwilde and Magnagora
Two: Glomdoring, Celest
One: Hallifax and Gaudiguch

You are now punishing people for being more than a one-dimensional 'all hail the Light, all hail Eventru' (sorry for picking you Eventru). I know Elostian has plenty of followers other than Hallifax, probably not anymore. Depth it important, this is helping to remove depth.

Valid point. I would normally blame this on my being sleepy, but I'll go ahead and concede that I'm half retarded.

You guys do bitch a lot, though. I stand by that.

Don't lump me in with the rest of them. You're just a freak like me. I normally bitch about bitching just like you. I just don't see the point of turning a potential ocean into a puddle.

Also, in before Atellus.

Edit: I'm probably being a bit hyperbolic, but this is probably one of the few changes since joining I actually really hate.
Atellus2010-02-11 08:06:34
The other way this does not add flavor is because it is all internal. Only other order members will know that atellus is costing Fain massive amounts of essence because he is in celest. If you never see something it adds no "flavor" to your in game experience.

What incentive do you have to go to another org now and try to gain converts? You would have to not only convince them to follow your gods ideals but also give up their class to switch to another org.

I think the orgs are already way too insular, this change just aggravates that.

In addition as others have pointed out the number of active divine is already small, we should be working to expand access to them not limit it. Having a large active order is one of the best ways to keep a divine active. Most of the divine already have Ideals that split along the Taint axis or City axis, further limiting that just makes no sense to me.

If it is going to be kept I would like to second the calls for changing the way it would work for inactive players. It already is a pain to come back to 500 decay messages, finding a message from a divine you followed kicking you out of the order for being inactive is just salt in the wounds (not that fain would ever do that to atellus of course).

This is a really silly change.

Also, in re: cliques. If you get off your bum and do work, the Divine will look favorably on you, end of story. I can't remember the last time I spoke to someone in Lisaera or Maylea's Orders and my rank was always in the 20's. If you're there looking for favour and they're not doing it, just leave and stop wasting your time. If you're still reaping the benefits of shrine powers, though, feel free to stay.

Stuffz.

But there is no real point to it in the first place. It's just screwing over a good part of the game and turning it into crap. There are no positive aspects and it's entirely negative, it's all negative. This is basicly telling me that if I want to be in an order, I -have- to go with Elostian and if I don't I better not get too high in someone else's order or they'll boot me for wasting their essence.

Raezon's Rp of accepting everyone is entirely screwed, if he does he's getting slapped in the face every day for everyone that isn't in Magnagora. You now have to offer every single day to not burn someone's essence just for being involved.

It's enough to turn you off of the entire system. Thank you, I now want to be orderless because of this new change. You have stifled my Rp.

I just re-joined Fain's Order, actually. I offer quite a bit, and do what I can. Once I figure out what I'm doing as a Nihilist, I'll start hunting Order enemies.

And sure, the god may promote you, but good luck "getting in" on anything unless a very small group of people like you. This applies to anything in Lusty, though, Orders are slightly less effected.

The getting in might be difficult but that's when you just pray to the god and they can smack someone, unless you know... you are Celina trying to join Lisaeras order... even then Lisaera might convert her and turn fains symbol against him or something...

*The above is not based on anything other than me remembering Celina in fains order.
Kante2010-02-11 08:44:17
I'll keep all of that in mind.

Wow. This is something I didn't see coming... probably because I wasn't aware of whatever problem it's trying to fix... which I don't think anyone has solidly established yet. I'm curious as why we can't be given at least the reason that justified this new thing so we can maybe at least try to understand it from an overseer's point of view. Me, the little guy on the ground, can't see a reason that would warrant a swing this large.
Elostian2010-02-11 10:17:15
For those of you who are now experiencing psychological harm, please take a look at the following link and bask in the knowledge of consolation. Our thoughts are with you.

Why do I suffer?
Kiradawea2010-02-11 10:49:09
Some orders really didn't need this. Isune is technically a part of Celest's patheon, but she has many ordermembers that are Rogue, Serenwilde or Gaudiguch. Add up that it's a small order with not too much offering, and she's going to suffer a lot.

Then there's the other RP aspect that's been talked about so much. Lisaera is ill, so I offer to her to help her get better. Kalikai is new, so I offer to her to help her build up an essence storage. Shikari is awesome, so I'll pay token tribute to him. And so on. All these aspects of a character now got severly hampered because of... this thing. I really, REALLY don't like it.

I used to talk to you all the time! You mostly just grunted. >_>

And I think it should be pointed out that the way Lisaera's order is organized ALL the combat path ranks are in the 20's >_>

And, I don't mind this change one bit. But I guess people who know me are not surprised at that at all. >_>
