Such things are decidedly not fun for affected players, are never managed well, and result in lasting harm to the orgs after the purges have been made. This is exactly the type of conflict that leads to player apathy which is the death of a group.
I also think the whole "everyone should be in conflict with everyone" mentality is horrible. Lasting peace and alliances can be just as interesting as constantly trying to force conflict. That is a whole different topic though and one that has been beaten to death by now.

Nah, wouldn't be fun for anyone, (I'm certainly not enjoying the inquisition variant of it right now in Fain's Order) but it's an example of other options. There's plenty of other roleplaying options other than "freedom means I can do whatever the hell I want".

Part of the problem is that conflict is what keeps us engaged. This game, the credit market, the investment in organizations, comes from camaraderie with those on a given side, a large amount of emotional value placed on the structures of our side, and the need to grind the other bastards down into the dust. Without conflict, sad to say, there's nothing that keeps a large amount of the game invested. Economically speaking, who's going to buy damage runes and other such nonsense in peacetime?
I did not say there should be no conflict, I said the issue was with the mentality that every org needs to have a good chance of being in conflict with every other org.
The more I think about it the more I am understanding how brilliant the current Glom setup is. Instead of working on an alliance that can be forced to be broken, just get all the key players of your alliance to join the same org.
We are getting off topic but this explanation of making each org an island makes this change more understandable.

Wtf is Casilu spewing all over the thread? I just see a bunch of squares and halves of English letters that make no sense.

It's upside down/reversed. Very annoying.
Gregori2010-02-11 20:15:04
I had no trouble reading it! Ya'll need to get into more trouble with the principle/cops so you can train your mind to read upside down by reading the reports on their desk and seeing what is being said about you as they try and berate/accuse you.

Gregori, what have you been doing that involves a principal and cops berating/accusing you of things?

Absolutely nothing, and certainly not the things that would be on the reports I am making up alibis for as they berate/accuse me. No siree. Not me. I AM INNOCENT!
Edit:: Also that would have been like 15 years ago... I just found the ability to read in reverse a good one to keep.

I think you're ignoring the orders mentioned above. elostioan, isune, and others whose ties are not as strong to their city are likely to suffer the most.
Unknown2010-02-11 20:27:23
Coming from someone who has nothing to do with orders, this is an awful idea. Reasons have already been stated in triplicate in this thread, but the fact is, this is DISincentive for RP. This just makes the organisation entirely reliant upon their pantheon, and encourages isolationism.

It still renders fine here. It's unicode. The problem is your Anglo-centric browser failing to render international characters properly. That's just so like you British people, bastardizing things and claiming it's the only correct way.

I think it'd be quite hard for Gaudiguch to come out and say, "You cannot be a member of a b c d e f g h i j k or l orders" - they are the city of freedom, after all. Whereas Hallifax might have an easier time of saying it, I don't see it as an overwhelming Elostian-esque move (I could be wrong though!), and I don't think his order has a lot of political push in Hallifax.
While I would love for this all-encompassing order that has members in Serenwilde, Hallifax and Gaudiguch, all holding up these strict, Eventruian ideologies of purity, faith and blind devotion, I can't see it working in such a way that his order members wouldn't try to keep those three orgs from going to war with one another. Which, ICly, is grand in Eventru's eyes (all glory to the Light! Rabble rabble!), I don't think that's healthy for the game. While I would certainly love to tone down and be a bit more all-encompassing, it's not something that, I think, would work very well in Lusternia while maintaining a healthy atmosphere for the usual org dynamics.

I hope this forces all Hallifax players to join Elo's Order so that I may then rule Hallifax with an Iron First with the force of divine mandate behind me! Muahahaha. Plus, we're way to subtle to just start order banning for political power.
I actually found being in Elostian's Order while in Glomdoring one of the most exciting RP opportunities for me. There was always this "What if Glom bans Elo?" or people in Glom recognizing that Elo had some sway in the forest, even though he wasn't on the consulate. I always thought it created interesting tensions between some of the players. I agree that Eventru would be a good candidate for a multi-nation order, but some of the other divines would be great it at without having to give up their connection to the home org. I know Elo was always disinterested in whether or not Glom order members were killing Seren order members in org conflict as long as we checked that conflict at the temple door.
Kante2010-02-12 03:24:24
Eventru is too biased for multiple nations. The only ones I can see doing so that are around at this time are Elostian and Raezon.

I'd be interested to see Lyreth come back right now, I may be wrong but he seems like he might fit in the hallifax pantheon. Though that switch would cause issues

Blasphemer! I wouldnt really see how it would cause problems as its really just me pretending I'm my own echo on the order aethers. Though I dont really see how he would fit in with Hallifax with the whole living in the moment ideal and what not.
P.S. Bring back Lyreth I'm lonely
