Amputate on the first demesne tick

Amputating on the first demesne tick shouldn't be possible. If you disagree, you are wrong.

And yet, it is possible. No previous burns or afflictions or anything:

The Aetherplex Chamber. (Avechna's Peak.)
Shimmering with aetheric energy, a bright glowing portal floats here in midair. A painting of Romero has been thrown on the ground here. A hunting trophy bearing Pesukaru's head is here, a grisly reminder of the power of a skillful hunter. A hunting trophy bearing Shuyin's head is here, a grisly reminder of the power of a skillful hunter. You see a sign here instructing you to use the PORTAL command to enter the aetherplex system. There is an aetherways portal here.
You see exits leading north (open door), south, out, and through a bright, glowing portal.

The Stairs of the Last Nine. (road). (Avechna's Peak.)
Throughout the location, small dancing flames flicker and spark. A haze of smoke rages here. Filling the firmament is a lattice of heavy grey clouds. A statue of a huge monstrous hippogriff with crimson wings stands here, memorializing her noble spirit. A mutilated stump of a leg lies twitching on the ground. Crimson General, Munsia D'cente`, Her Sword and Shield towers here, shrouded. She wields a fiery basalt staff in her left hand and a magic tome in her right.
A haze of smoke obscures the rest of your vision.

sniff soulless

You rub the image of the Soulless on Munsia, who pales slightly.
<4865h 3708m 5058e 10p 20408en 7618w <-b>bd>
You sniff the card of the Soulless, and sense it has been imprinted upon Munsia 6 times.

Thick black smoke wreaths you, and you begin to hack and cough. (asthma)
A rolling wave of fire sweeps over you. (ablaze)
Your flesh is charred, and you receive first degree burns. (first-burns)
Your skin and lips crack amid this parching heatwave. (sunallergy)
Your flesh is charred, and you receive first degree burns. (first-burns)
Your flesh burns as a sheet of shimmering fire envelops you.
Your flesh is charred, and you receive first degree burns. (first-burns)
You are swarmed by several burning salamanders, setting you ablaze.
Your flesh is charred, and you receive first degree burns. (first-burns)
A ball of wild fire smashes into you, searing your flesh.
Your flesh is charred, and you receive second degree burns. (second-burns)
Liquid fire rains down on you, broiling your flesh.
You scream as your entire right arm is reduced to ash.
Your flesh is charred, and you receive second degree burns. (second-burns)
You begin to sweat profusely in this sweltering heat. (slickness)
You breathe in some black ashes and then begin coughing hoarsely. (blacklung)

So yeah, can we fix Pyromancy yet?
Sior2010-02-18 21:15:05
You can forward this to an envoy - we've requested a Pyromancy/Aeromancy report by the end of February. Reports this month are also not due to be finalized for another week as well if you want to go that route.
Shamarah2010-02-18 21:15:50
I don't understand why we need to wait several weeks to fix something so blatantly broken.
Rika2010-02-18 21:16:17
But Shamarah! Pyromancy has no way to hinder!
Doman2010-02-18 21:18:23
It's funny....how it was thought to be a good idea in the first place
Sior2010-02-18 21:19:56
From what I'm seeing, there is a 0% chance at first burn level and 5% chance at second burn level to amputate.

Which is 5% too high....
Shamarah2010-02-18 21:25:17
So you have a ~10% chance to be hit by one, the other, or both on the very first demesne tick. Honestly, who thought that was a good idea?
Unknown2010-02-18 21:38:38
I've been saying from the start that too many things increase your burn level, but this looks like it's a simple matter of the amputate being possible at all below level four burns.

Hey, on the brighter side, though, that second arm should be a little safer after the last reports.

Exactly. If it's such a low percentage change, they won't miss it, and the game will be better for it.
Shamarah2010-02-18 21:43:18
Personally what I think they should do is replace the demesne effects with something else and turn amputate into an active power-costing skill. But that's just me.
Doman2010-02-18 21:46:56
Burns are still way easy to get on anyone but the best combatants, and even then..
Unknown2010-02-18 21:47:54
Looks like you just need to learn to cure man.

I'll add this in to the report. Should anything else be thought of, feel free to just toss it to this thread (which I am now dubbing the 'get ideas for Pyromancy/Aeromancy thread') or pop me a PM.

Skill is irrelevant, really. You can build up to max burns just by dissolving protection, then whoring shield stun.
Doman2010-02-18 22:00:04
Yep

Or they can keep it passive, but have it take 3 power each time it activates. If it starts amputating when they have no power left, the awesome power of the demesne can amputate the melder instead!

What would be the point of amp hitting on fourth degree? If you hit fourth degree, it's cremate time.
Xiel2010-02-18 22:13:44
I think a majority of us are wondering why amputate at all with its tumble-stopping nature and subsequent problems besides fulfilling some form of aesthetic quality, but that's what the report is hopefully trying to address anyway.
Estarra2010-02-18 22:18:20
If you got amputated on the first tic, then you must have had high burn levels to begin with. We can adjust percents based on the input from the upcoming pyro report. (Keep in mind the adjustment to these skills from the latest envoy report.) Anyway, I do not agree the skills are "blatantly broken" or that they are broken at all.
