Tertiary advice, Moon vs. Tracking

Because I'm finicky and usually unsettled, I'm thinking of switching from Moon to Tracking. (From an RP standpoint, Tracking makes way more sense for Ila.)

In Moon, I find myself using drawdown (obviously), resurgem (again, obvious), and dark. I have stuff set up for use of waning and Succumb, but I don't find myself needing them very often.

Meanwhile, pits, tracking, wolf, blah blah blah... it would be handy to have another tracker around Serenwilde.

So, since I'm indecisive and silly, I can't make up my mind. What does everybody else think?
Ayden2010-03-03 01:35:12
Moon is awesome. Don't.
Sylphas2010-03-03 01:38:40
Having a Tracker would be handy. Resurgeming a Tracker is a pain in my ass. So switch, but don't die, is my advice.
Zallafar2010-03-03 01:48:02
Having a Tinkerer would be handy. Go bard.

*disregards Zallafar's silliness*

So would a prostitute... tongue.gif

Yeah, you guys are helpful. rolleyes.gif
Sylphas2010-03-03 02:15:17
I think we've narrowed it down. You need to be a Bard with Tracking, Tinkering, and also be a prostitute. Assuming you need to fill all of our needs.

MOON.

OR.

TRACKING.

Besides, Ila would make a lousy prostitute.
Sylphas2010-03-03 02:20:32
You might make a lousy Tracker too. Are we looking for what you're good at, what Serenwilde needs, or what you'd like to do?

Now that I think about, who decided Serenwilde needs more hookers? That's the LAST thing we need.

I honestly can't answer, because I don't know enough about warriors. Moon makes you easier to Resurgem, so that's my selfish vote.
Ayden2010-03-03 02:34:25
My vote is Moon unless you are going to use tracking to find the Sand thingys... It's really personal choice and what you plan to do.

If Environment < Transcendent, Tracking = Crud
Unknown2010-03-03 02:40:29
That's not strictly true. A lot of people say that, and yes, it does make obsolete a few skills, but first of all, I'm not trans Environment, and secondly, it does nothing to affect traps or clamp.
Simimi2010-03-03 02:43:34
My, not so professional, mind, two cents. I have only ever gotten up to Full in Moon, but I am trans Tracking. I don't pvp often enough to be amazing, but I thought I would chip in just because. I find Tracking to be enjoyable as a skill set as a whole. The companion is fun to roleplay about with, and it comes in handy for certain quests/tasks. I recall an event where we needed to find something unique, and trackers could just camp out and send their companions after it, no sweat. You get some utility that may mean little to you (but was amazing for myself) in (Tree|DeepSea|Mountain) Hunter. Pathways in Hunting is really nice, but not as nice as it could be. (just not enough really, truly, sweet paths that I have found, nothing game breaking or as awesome as having MajorSixth or Catacombs tarot) Most of hunting is useful as a lowbie, and not much else.

Traps are fun, period. If you like Chess/Go/WeiQi/Baduk/Othello or any other strategy style game, I think you will like traps. Being able to put them up in advance is awesome, but you can just as easily set them up while running away to aid your holmies on the lam. Gusting and such helps with strategorically getting people to fall in/trip a trap. Headhunter/Trophy are just for lulz, but you can always use a lulz skill in any skillset. Not sure how awesome Snakepit is (trans skill) as I mostly run into spike pits and such.

You will need Trans Environment to make Tracking really awesome (for taking down other tracker's traps...)

All fear the Trapmense, we all hate them, you can spread some hate. What more could you want from a skillset?

EDIT: Tracking also frees the warrior from the chains of nexus that binds them, freeing you to use power from anywhere, and go anywhere as you please. Not that you would leave or anything, but if it came up... Tents make nice places to chill too.
Unknown2010-03-03 02:44:18
Environment < Transcendent means you can't see/disarm many others' traps. That's about it, but it can be a big deal sometimes.

Moon is pretty nice, though. Aura, Shine, Drawdown, Cone, Resurgem...

If you choose Tracking, you WILL be on Manifestation duty. biggrin.gif

Don't go tracking unless you really want to be more situationally useful than generally useful.
Simimi2010-03-03 03:37:58
Being situationally useful is the bomb. Don't listen to Sojiro's hayte...

Yea maybe consider Moon... I think it would be nicer all around, all things considered... But then again, you can be like every other $WARRIOR too.

This.

You're a lot softer a target as a tracker without the massive DMP from nightkiss/drawdown. You also lack a direct offense, apart from the easy-to-kill-bond. Also, unless you're prepared to lose a lot of materials, you'll have to restrict your trap use.
Rodngar2010-03-03 03:47:19
Nightkiss and Drawdown are way too useful to give up, aren't they?
Unknown2010-03-03 04:11:17
Yeah, misunderstood about the Environment thing, but oh well.

And yeah, if there are sticking points, it's Drawdown and Totems. I don't find myself using Moon a ton in combat. I rely pretty heavily on my rapiers. How much of a difference to general damage does Drawdown actually make?
