We've been investigating the reports of strange lag that some players seem to be experiencing. Looking over the traceroute reports we've gotten and running tests on our code isn't turning up anything so we're hitting a brick wall. Are people still experiencing lag? If so, can you describe in detail what you're experiencing? If it was a internet issue, it could have simply cleared up on its own.

My current cable Internet connection, which I've been using for about four years, has always been remarkably stable. If I get lag in a game, it's nearly always either the game's servers, or possibly my actual computer. Coupled with the fact that multiple people have been experiencing lag lately, I'm led to believe that it's primarily due to Lusternia's servers.

The other day, I'd go through periods of getting 2-3 second lag spikes every 10-20 seconds. Basically, the MUD would freeze for a few moments, then unfreeze. During the spikes, input to the MUD was not accepted, but if I issued multiple commands during the spike, they would all fire simultaneously when the spike ended.

More recently (as in today), I've been getting 1-2 second lag spikes once every minute to three minutes, but that seems like a fairly normal amount of lag. I'm not having problems playing with it.

Had similar lag to Cambrian yesterday but nothing notable today, think it might've cleared up.

I've had 2 second delays on and off over the past two days. They just seem to come and go.

I've not had the massive but infrequent 10s+ bursts of lag I've had over the last few days, today, but I have had occasional bouts of less severe (1-2s+) but longer lasting (over ~1-2 mins) lag.
Nyllach2010-04-05 18:10:43
I've had 5+ second bursts sometimes but fairly infrequently, can't say it has been too dramatic for me really. And obviously the occassional 1-2 second lag which comes with all IRE games.

Never really had any problems at all myself since the switch. Rather the opposite; I've lost 70ms ping to Lusternia thumup.gif

Kinda leads me to believe that the server was moved further east in the states, and that the problem is a routing issue somewhere in the states...

It was (from San Fran to Chicago), however it doesn't look like a routing issue from all the tracerts that are being run.

I have a pretty good connection...10mb/s I think. But I have been getting occasional lag bursts (~5 seconds.) Nothing severe, though.

I've been having several lag bursts today. THey usually kick in whenever I try to input something.

Last night I was experiencing lag whenever I tried to call up a ghelp/chelp/cghelp file (since what else is there to do on a Tuesday night but edit files, right?).

That might just be the fact that the helpfiles are buffered before being sent down the pipe. If they are big, that will obviously cause a little lag for you. Not sure if that would be anything to worry about. Might be entirely wrong though! rolleyes.gif

If there's a "buffer", it's not usually a 5-6 second stall out - and most of Gaudi's help files aren't that long.

awhile ago while influencing, after I successfully influenced a mob, there's a brief lag for about 5 to 10 seconds before I can resume influencing again, worse it sometimes kicks me out of the game.

Keep in mind that there's a good chance your lag isn't directly related to your own activities. It could be someone else using POWERLOG SUMMARY or deleting a message in a long list of messages or just a huge group fight going on somewhere. One never knows for sure, and that's why these issues can be very difficult to track down.
Sior2010-04-07 15:58:40
We've made some progress in diagnosing the issue. Stay tuned!

When using Nexus, I lag in Hallifax. Sure there's the regular lag, but after walking a bit in Hallifax, I always lag a lot. As soon as I move outside of Hallifax, the lag stops. If I use Mush, I don't notice any lag.

I experience lag occasionally, but it tends to clear up on its own and it's usually directly related to me doing too many things at once while receiving a tell. I just chalk it up to my dial-up internet.

The only time I notice significant and damaging lag is during combat against other people, and that might just be lag on my part.

It used to be a -lot- worse.

I believe Sior the Magnificent said last night he believes he's tracked down the problem - hopefully it'll be fixed soon.
