But more seriously - we're all very mean people, just here to torment you. In fact, I mark every person who walks by my fulcrux for punishment...

...Anyways. Just because you should not fear us as gods in real-life, does not mean you shouldn't in-game. They are, after all, gods - but they generally don't zap without a good reason (and are generally rather enjoyable characters)

(Note: Reason may be you offended them. I hear Fain, in his undeadness, finds breathing offensive. :x)

My being afraid of Divine is a huge reason why I'll never follow Fain. XD If any God scares me, it's him.

I think Kalikai would be fun. I need to get Lucan to leave some booze at her fulcrux sometime.

Semi-related question: Besides visiting a fulcrux, what are the other means to know if a Divine is present in the realms?
Lendren2010-04-18 15:55:10
You're not meant to be able to tell. If you find a way to tell that doesn't depend on them being willing for you to know, you should BUG it.

Sometimes, I have just tried TELL to tell, actually...

Fain will eat you and use your bones as toothpicks.

This'll fail if they're supercloaking. There have been times when I knew who was TELLing to me, but since it showed up as "the Divine voice of Someone powerful" and they were hiding, even TELLing directly to them returned a "Sorry, who?" message.

OBJECTION! Terentia.

Yeah from an OOC perspective, Gods are players too. I'm going to assume they don't enjoy staring at a screen that says "The Fulcrux of Lyreth" for 9/10 hours of game play. They get their entertainment from, well, playing their god! I doubt ReadLog divine ever had

I was warn-zapped once for entering Fain's fulcrux while trying to map it.

True story.

(Of course, I had entered it 2 times previously while making the connections work, but still! Meany!)

Fain scares the living bajeezus out of me. On an OOC level. It's kind of pathetic, but seriously omg I'm freaked out by him. I was shaking when he showed up earlier on Nil after Winnae killed that Seren for being Elfen. ><

Most other Gods don't freak me out THAT much. My biggest issue is getting over the hurdle of "I'm just bugging the crap out of them." It takes a little while of chatting for me to feel like I'm not being a bother. >.> That goes for me talking to some mortal players in game too. :<
Arix2010-04-19 02:16:57
Because he's undead, Fain shows up on the 'players online' page. So you can usually just check that to see if he's around
ongaku2010-04-19 02:35:33
Yeah, I noticed that before. That's such an odd little bug.

It's not like I'm afraid to the point where I'll avoid talking on CT because I see he's online. I just will avoid talking to him at all costs.
Shaeden2010-04-19 03:09:49
Well, from an OOC perspective I'd be more worried about player than a Divine, since Divine are much more accountable. If Fain makes someone quit the game because he did something dick-like, there will likely be repercussions where as I the paying player am not responsible for the continuation of the game. Really the worst that will happen is a zap! You shouldn't be shaking over the internet Zaps!

I stand by that decision, actually. Cowardice makes all of humanity worse. Knock it off.

Truly, if one aspires to become merely half as bold and fearless as Xavius, even should you fail to attain that lofty goal, your life will not have been lived in vain.

Anyway, my two cents:

As has been mentioned, there's nothing wrong with being intimidated by god characters, but the only solution is to relax and loosen up a bit, and work yourself through it. Make an effort to detach yourself from your character's feelings (people can get "sucked in" to the fantasy, like in horror movies), decide logically how he should interact with a god character, type it out, and make yourself press Enter.

Lusternia's gods are far more good-humored, patient and forgiving (on the whole) than some I've met in MUDs past.
