I hear every other demesne has passive effects besides Pyros now.
What? They still have passive effects, they're just not godly like they were before.
I'm all for buffing Pyromancers since they were beaten with the proverbial end of a stick, but let's not be silly.
Vesar2010-04-26 21:28:18
Let's talk realities? What exactly are the differences between Aero and Pyro now?
Xiel2010-04-26 21:34:29
One does ablaze, burn levels, slickness, asthma, blacklung, sunallergy, dizziness/blindness/ablaze, and damage passively. Burn level instakill goes here and an active blackout/amputate attack for power.
The other does mental affs, freezing, knockdown/damage, a balance/eq malus, and cloudcoils passively. Cloudcoil instakill goes here.
I'd say they're pretty set, really.

Apologies, I wrote that quickly. It lacks a passive HINDERING affliction - something that takes balance/eq/slows them down from leaving your demesne. Also, it's looking like you can't even get a reliable active skill amputate until fourth degree burns. If you're to fourth degree, I'm going to amputate you for one more power. Maybe I was just unlucky, but I tried incinerate on a few people at 0, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th degree burns, and only at fourth degree would it amputate with any real success.
I fully acknowledge that what they were was way too OP, but a passive hindering skill would be nice. (Passive amputate was the original, albeit misguided, attempt to give the Pyromancers one) Does that addendum to my original statement help, or am I ignoring another mage guild that lacks a passive hinder skill?

Pyros can have a hinder when Aquamancers have a viable instakill. Just sayin'
Unknown2010-04-27 01:19:23
I've actually always supported the Aqua's instakill coming more into line with the others. Just sayin'.

Good, prod an envoy to help with that
I wouldn't mind seeing Pyro get some sort of hindering, though personally, I see that confusion thing as a type of hindering. You know, where you move in a random direction when you move?

You're not looking at the big picture.
"Everyone else can prone people demesne-wide, therefore, we're underpowered." That's basically what your claim boils down to. You see something other people have, so you want it. Just because.
What you didn't lose is all the crazy psionics combo potential that other people don't have. It doesn't take any creativity to see all the angles for softlocks and shutting down offense in that demesne.
Balancing on the principle of separate but equal demands that the varying advantages are commensurate. This doesn't just mean something like swarm is equivalent to jellies is equivalent to lodestone is equivalent to NOTHING IN PYROMANCY SO BUFF PLZ. Would you want to give up asthma and slickness for lodestone and rubble? Would you give up your one-button softlock powers for jellies? Would you want that, even in spite of all the ways that Paradigmatics can make someone stand still for group combat? Would you want that, even though demesnes won't soften your target before they get to you or hinder far enough for you to seriously chase him/her post-range-nerf unless your opponent is terrible?
Methinks you don't want to draw too much attention to the remaining disparities. Not if you want to leave Pyromancy intact.

I agree, Psionics for everyone.
Xiel2010-04-27 07:33:48
Seriously. Scrap Dreamweaving and its bugginess and spread out some Psionics loving!

What do dreamweaving mages get then?! Ecology?!
What I'd like is for runes/dreamweaving to be made more effective for mages. There's not really any kill potential, just group assist - and I speak from experience. My kill method as a runist was either phantomspheres or claws/haegl and try to bleed them out. Yeah, I'm sure you can guess how well that worked. I think an aqua might be able to manage a bit more with isa/icefloe+preserve, but that's about it.
The difficulty is coming up with something that works well in a mage demesne without making a druid demesne (+ sap) ridiculous.

Teh weaving. Fix it.

I have no problems with giving mages Ecology. :>

I really just think that Druids and Mages should just have their own seperate tertiaries. It would make everyone's lives a lot easier.
And give a Psionics equal to Druids, please.

Yes!
However, this has been said before and still not. (Same thing can technically happen with wiccans/guardians too though)
