...what country says "lemin"?

Lots and lots of words around here have their final vocalic syllables "shortened" to the same i/schwa sound. If you say it really fast, in, "I'm going to the city", all the bold letters can sound very close to each other.

Stop making me want to move to Hallifax.
Edit: Entirely unrelated, can we stop throwing all of these harsh words at the admin? We -asked- for these Ascendant changes, one way or another, in every form - we ASKED for a cap, we ASKED a way to limit them so it didn't serve as a free demi machine, we ASKED for an essence shop because we were bored. And they got implemented. We ought to be thankful, even though it overreached a bit.

I think different groups asked for all of those things.

One way to slow the demi-machine would be to remember their level when they ascend and put them back to that when they descend. And, no more gimping the demigod essence when they ascend! (What's the logic there, anyway? I still don't get it.)

I think the "logic" was that if it wasn't reduced, then it would be much more feasible to have a number of demigods who could build up the kind of essence needed to immediately trans ascendance in the time it would take to accumulate 1 million power. At which point, people who didn't have demi yet and still wanted to run for Vernal would have to go against an increasing number of people who could present the argument, "If you raise me, I could hit transcendent ascendance as soon as I finish spending my essence on it".
Not that I want to argue whether or not this is good or bad logic. Just that I believe that is what the intent was.

You mean that you asked for a cap.

It would be better if the players weren't punished for a shortsightedness on the admin's part.

This is not the essence shop people asked for, so that argument is almost entirely invalid. We're probably raging too much and providing compelling arguments too little, but saying we asked for this, in this form, is just not true.

The "o" isn't any particular vowel sound, it's just a schwa...why would it be an "I"!? (Trying to read Everiine's sentence with all the vowels sounding the same gives me a headache too, I can't even imagine that...bizarre. At this point Xavius will come in to tell me it's perfectly normal and start complaining about the French, but whatever.)

I've found the easiest way to start faking a British sounding accent is to just make sure I actually pronounce words correctly.

What do you do when there's a problem novice who is determined to be OOC on CT, use emoticons on CT, has overdrawn power and been blocked and refuses to return it, and is just generally a huge pest for all the above reasons? :/
Razenth2010-08-11 18:03:06
Kick.

People who refuse to read news posts. You can read enough to the subject line and see that there's going to be a credit sale, but you can't read a few lines further to tell you when it starts? Well thanks for your donations.
Gregori2010-08-11 18:05:28
Do what I do now... count to 10, punch sheep in your mind, and when that doesn't work vent on the OOC clans. Barring that issue her for being OOC on CT and let the admins deal with the problems so we can deal with the IC stuff.

That makes you sound like you're from the urban Midwest, sorry.
Anyways, to field Shiri's complaint, there are some American dialects (how many depends on how finely you divide them up, but more than one no matter how) that pronounce their schwas like the short "i" in igloo, bearing in mind that all Americans make a less stressed sound when they pronounce that vowel than you do. It's not anything special about the schwa in lemon. I also don't think there's any sort of linguistically accepted "correct" schwa in any English-speaking nation, so it's not something you get to gripe about. It's just a little noise you make to get your tongue around the consonants in an unstressed syllable. You probably wouldn't notice the difference in normal conversation.
