Haha, like I know how to do that! Triggers I can kind of figure out, if I even realise what is going on in the log... but everything else, I don't even have one clue how to do it, or what I should even be doing it to.

It's a combination of a few highlight triggers (and maybe triggers that track and display your target's status) and a lot of practice. You get used to the rhythm of combat -- you don't read the lines, you just pick up by their lengths and sizes approximately what's going on, because you've seen them so many times. So the unusual things stand out. You might already have that going on as you walk around your city and you no longer see the statues, but you'd notice if one was missing. It's like that, only a lot more so, and it's just practice.

And, the only way to learn it all is to ask lots of questions. Any task is overwhelming if you consider it all at once and try to tackle it on your own, but it quickly becomes manageable when you break it down and start asking for help.

Essence loss for dying in non-organizational territory is pretty low already!

Just stay out of territories with organizations that you're enemied to...

In this case, organisational territory = territory owned by one of the six player organisations.

Denizens who enemy, such as gorgogs/merians, illithoids/kephera, should not have such a large essence loss.

fyi, this was not raiding, it was the illithoid prison. And like I said, the loss was 2 million essence. And I'm pretty sure that was vitae, because when I reconnected I was still in the same spot being attacked by the same worm (and it's a good thing Sadie came to help, because I was well into the red for a second death). I'm not sure how that amount of loss qualifies as "pretty low", unless it's a percentage of total or something. I'm at around 41 million, so that's around what? 5%? Would the loss go up as your total essence goes up?

2 million is the cap I believe, but yes it does scale on your total essence

It's like 5% or 2 million. Whichever is less.

Whatever the math, it works out to a lot of essence.

The illithoid are organizational territory (the Illithoid Prison), as are the kephera (the Kephera Hives), the elfen in Caoimhe (Caoimhe Dell), the night fae in Wydyr (Wydyr Glade), the kelpies (Kelpie Shoals), Nyalia's merians (Nyalia), gorgogs (the Gorgogs), etc etc etc.

Non-organizational territory is areas like the Skarch, Grey Moors, the mountains, Oleanvir.

Okay, lower essence loss in enemy territory EXCEPT Serenwilde, Glomdoring, Celest, Magnagora, Hallifax, Gaudiguch, their respective planes and villages.

I'm sure you understood that from the beginning, becuase I made it pretty clear, but okay, I'll spell it out for you.

Yeah, the problem is that "in another org griefing their noobs" is exactly the same as "in a bashing area bashing the things that are there explicitly to be bashed" as far as the mechanics are concerned. It'd be peachy if the latter was half the penalty of the former, or maybe no additional penalty at all (loss of Avenger protection's already pretty harsh).

(Note that I'm a neutral voice in this -- neither of my characters is enemied to any mob orgs so it doesn't affect me either way. Just seems to make sense to me.)

The real solution, obviously, is to buy your powers to decrease your total essence remaining down to two million or less (but not less than 500k, of course)...
