I visited Achaea again recently. As much as I...

This place still beats Achaea in every single aspect.
Ileein2010-08-29 21:30:39
^^This.

I'll third that. Even just logging back in to Achaea for two minutes sends me running away, screaming in terror. Lusternia has its share of issues and jerks, but it still beats Achaea hands down.
Kiradawea2010-08-29 22:58:53
To put it like this.

Achaea has 16 classes, Lusternia has 26, going on 30. While the Achaean classes may have some who are really unique in combination (Shaman, Jester), and Lusternia only got 5 archetypes, there is a lot of variety within each of those archetypes. Not to mention the access to several tertiaries makes for much more diversity.

This also gives the classes a much more powerful flavour, in that, as much as they would be loathe to admit it, the Celestines and Nihilists share teachings in Cosmic. I love that. It gives a greater sense of... of this being actual teachings in a foreign world, instead of skillsets made only to be skillsets in a game.

Flavour is also powerful in the rest of the world. In Achaea, areas seem... tacked on. The mobs seem mostly unresponsive, and the quests are highly generic. In Achaea you have things like... Ulangi, where there is intense racial enmity... because Grooks use magic, and Horkvals are bad at magic. That's it. Now compare that to Aslaran/Krokani racial enmity. There's so much flavour involved in it it's just...

Flavour really is one of the key differences between Achaea and Lusternia. In Achaea, it just feels like you're doing the same repetitive quest over and over. In Lusternia, doing a quest leaves you with the feeling that you have actually made an impact on the world. And the quests are great too. They have so much more to them than what you saw in Achaea.

And you can really explore the world here. In Achaea, you can barely walk outside your own home city without having to worry about being robbed blind by a thief, or find someone trying to pick a fight for whatever reason. Sure, we have jerks here too (but not thieves, and awesome is that), but not only is the Avenger a great system, despite the flaws, but "free PK" areas function much better as "free PK" areas here than they do in Achaea.

And I'm not even touching upon things like Influencing, Aetherspace, runes for artifacts, or heck, even the lower dependency upon artis.

The only place Achaea wins is in number of players. And I'm not sure if that is a good thing.

So bottom line. While Lusternia makes me want to make a gallow's tree, it is still so much better than Achaea, it ain't even funny.

I need to get myself a pair of geeky glasses. And push them up on the bridge of my nose repeatedly when talking. Maybe even repair them with tape.

I wanted to do this, but I don't think there are any regular glasses/spectacles in Lusternia. I was able to do it in mko though.
GIVE US REGULAR GLASSES.

I just added them into my desc.

Hot librarian glasses are better.
Xiel2010-08-30 07:30:36

Indeed. Sexy.
Lendren2010-08-30 10:43:22
When I did that ages ago I just made them part of my description. (It came about as part of the sequence of events by which Lendren found out who his biological parents were.) Later, when I got some artifact spectacles, I got them customized to match what I'd had in my description (and removed it from there). But it is kind of silly that you can't get them as a decorative item.
Furien2010-08-30 12:18:19
You remove 1 wood, bringing the total in the rift to 587.

Side effect of commodity market change: up-to-now unrealized perks of once being a Druid.
Kiradawea2010-08-30 13:59:24
Obviously, what the commodity change really was was the long awaited druid buff.

If Serenwilde really has the attitude that it is "unneccessary" to help commune members acquire their epic honour, it's no wonder that they struggle.

When I first started the project to try and schedule moons for people, I was at first told to remove all references to "Full Moon" and "Chuchip". People seem to have the idea that it's a huge mark of how awesome you are, and if you give any help it will take away from the people who did it by themselves.
Kiradawea2010-08-30 16:53:23
Yeah. And I do not like that. Especially because it is by far the easiest, or at least least work, epic quest I've seen. Only reason I even bother to help Gleip is because he's a Lobo with no lessons. Lobo != Influencing.
