@othero: It's all well and good to say divorce castes from cr, but how are you going to maintain the castes within the city? If you go clan or something where all members of hallifax are members just to track their caste then you potentially end up with cr6 servants.

And? There are all manner of "servants" in the world who are instilled with a ridiculous amount of trust and hold a great deal of responsibility. Have a public clan. Have special titles and special privileges. More power. More credits during sales, etc. etc. Give your citymates enough credit to be able to recognize each other, and know who fits where in the social order, and respect it. For all the boasting of the role-play skill involved in upholding a caste system, you're certainly approaching it with very narrow thinking if you believe that the tags visible on CWHO have to be its defining attribute. This is just kind of lazy, really. You do have the power to make it work for you without betraying what the admin have in mind for Hallifax. Try harder.

i think the main problem is that it's always fun to rp that you're better than others. not as much fun to rp that others are better than you.

Ok... so a cr1 without any official position could have the right to order around cr6's?

More power would not work because the warriors would complain and would technically be correct in that they should have the higher allotment. Same for credits, the argument would immediately become that warriors need to spend credits on skills and artifacts.

At the moment cwho simply works. A single clan seems like it would be unwieldy, really what could work is five or so clans one for each caste. With all newbies inducted into the Servants clan then moving between the castes as appropriate allowing for documentation to be restricted to appropriate groups and the like with some level of organisation within the castes themselves.

Though laws would be required to make participation in the caste system mandatory, otherwise I can see people rage quitting because they don't want to be servants.

I can put it to the board and perhaps it will go through. Though I've never really given it much thought and would have expected something like this to come from those that are complaining.

I hope this isn't being directed at me, Saran does not consider himself better than warriors. However he does consider the scholars and artists as better than warriors. Seriously one discussion last night had me facepalming.

You know, the idea "the admin gave us this so we have to do it" isn't a very good idea to have, elsewise, the entire game would be completely different. You always have the ability to take what's given and work it different, it's up to interpretation and I doubt Estarra is going to come down and go YOU DIDN'T KEEP PREVENTING PLAYERS FROM ENJOYING THE WHOLE GAME YOU DIE NOW.

Really, for scientists, artists and bureaucrats, you should be able to figure and argue it any way and still keep the spirit of the Caste system in place.

A won battle can be a sign of higher thinking, or an experiment on how the body/bodies work in stressful situations.

Fighting can be seen as a dance, deadly but just as difficult as the show ones.

And I'm sure other people can come up with more reasons that you can see a revolt/defence/raid and go, well, they do deserve it.

As has been said several times before, carry out the discussion in-game. The forums are not here for you to resolve your IC problems.

Go forth and debate.

Those few days I get to sign on, they're nice, though quiet for the most part, and then there's always the small appointment when I have no entries for the city design contest.
Shulamit2010-10-02 13:21:25
No more designs! I beg of you! I just found out I can influence muses without taking nasty essence cuts, and I've been doing that non-stop, and I still need to make more furniture designs for His temple, and and books, oh Gods, I need to ask about the book design...erg...and now commodity gathering with Phoebus. Must keel cows.
Elostian2010-10-02 13:45:46
Shulamit, your Most Glorious and Exalted Lord Lyreth has asked me to convey his shopping list to you, he would like the following:

4 Accompanying tapestries, all of them Glorifying the Lord's Exalted being
8 New book designs, to house the 8 volumes of 'Lyreth, the Man, the Legend'
A new throne, to house the being of the Sidereal Glorification
A full set of clothing to make up the uniform for the order of the Sidereal Lord consisting out of shoes, tunic, trousers, coat, cloak, hat, gloves and appropriate accessories. One unique uniform for each order rank.
A personalised signet ring displaying a combination of personal sigil as well as the symbol of the Glorious Muse. One for each order member.
A platter of divine grapes, complemented by accompanying drink, do not forget the little parasol.
Three large fans, for the lower order ranks to bestow refreshment upon the Sidereal Lord during those hot Celestian summer days.

Please keep the amount of 'Sparklies' to a minimum.

Your Lord is Counting on you. With a capital. Good Luck.
Shulamit2010-10-02 13:47:52

Use Clangorum as inspiration. He was both of the Second Circle (warrior) and the Fourth Circle (artist). Alternatively, use Morgfyre or Kalikai as your template. They were strategists who could, in a very specific and specialised way, out-think Xyl, one of the Fifth Circle (scholars).

That's cool. No one ever designs anything for Cloudweavers anyway, and I haven't been able to be making as many new things lately because class started again. sad.gif

I think Clangorum was specifically fourth circle, he just learned how to use the weapons that he created it didn't make him a warrior though other elders just assumed that he and he did not correct them.

Morgfyre and Kalikai would be excellent leaders within the warriors caste, why would they be regarded as great scientists or artists for brilliance in their specific and specialised way? Would this not simply prove that the second circle is the best place for them to serve the elders?
Thendis2010-10-03 01:18:31
I was a little peeved to see clans cost 500k. I figured they would cost around as much as manses.

1 Million gold for a cartel ;_;

If they costed as much as a manse (350k I believe is the fulcrux price) I would have a few cartels ...
