All of that said, it would be interesting if people pulled it off here, and possible to worm in to the RP structure (WORM... GET IT?!). It would just be really, really, really hard, and really really really prone to stupid.

No arguments from me, there, and plausible deniability may mean that you can't/shouldn't do an actual clan for it, in which case it would function even more like a secret, self-destructive cult. Meetings would be ad hoc and everyone would be dancing on eggshells to make sure not the slightest sign of their allegiance leaked out to the public. "Group" communication would happen very infrequently and very carefully.

I'm sure that the logistics of it would be difficult and, like you say, there are a lot of things that could possibly go wrong if said group isn't as air-tight as they can be. But my main point was that players have a lot more power to create RP than they give themselves credit for, sometimes. There seems to be a sort of deep seated instinct that, unless an Admin specifically creates or validates something, it can't happen.

Sure, stupid can happen. People can try to put things together that are way out of line with Lusternian lore or "the way the world works," although I'm sure players at large would come down on that just as much as an admin would. I don't know. I just get the vibe sometimes that people feel like they have to be reactive instead of proactive when it comes to creating things, especially RP opportunities.

I need to take my own advice sometimes and not take things personally. laugh.gif

If anyone was ever curious about the Talnara FT, it's all about babies and marriage.

So what if I'm not married. losewings.gif

Are you sure you're not forgetting something?

Aslaran are so squishy!
Siam2010-07-16 16:25:32
You there. Yes, you, Mr. Enchanter, enchant my figurines, please?
Unknown2010-07-16 17:04:07
Several pages late, but I haven't had access to a computer (well I did but I was not willing to bear dying to heat to check my sites).

1. Phoebus, we can no longer be friends. How can you dislike horses?!?! Awmaigawd. Horse 4 lyfe yo. And that picture is totally NOT A HORSE. Of the equine family, yes, Horse no. Pwnies and horses are my favs. *cough*

2. I wish Lusty has its own version of Dis. That was by far my most favorite, favoritests place in Imperian. Honestly, being dead in Impy was far better than being alive.

Even if you aren't done, eventually some idiot is going to say "betrayal RP is aweome!" and out you and everyone else. Or gloat somewhere, IC or OOC.

That was Jack-the-character's modus operandi. "LOL BETRAYL" meant he was enemied to pretty much every org about a year after I made him.

On the topic, though, I wrote a bardic one time about a cultist during the Vernal Wars who worshipped Kethuru. While I left it open as to whether Kethuru actually communed with him or whether he was just a complete basketcase, he was definitely pants-on-head crazy. That's the only way that kind of cult can work. And while it's interesting from a roleplaying perspective, that's going to make the whole thing much less attractive to a conventional player, since "ushering in the apocalypse and dying along with everyone else" is not as seductive a prospect as "wipe out your foes, dominate culturally and economically" - and the lack of admin-sanctioned mechanics/rewards will discourage most combatants (who are largely, let's be fair, powergamers), meaning it will be a nihilistic death-cult perpetrated by squishy roleplayers. Fascinating to play, sure, but where would it go, and what could they do? I'm just picturing a reprisal of the Disciples of Crow, with people seizing on the (admittedly roleplay-legit) excuse that "THEY'RE CRAZY CULTISTS!" to grief the poor guys into the ground.
Razenth2010-07-16 17:56:08
Did you win credits?
Jack2010-07-16 18:29:56
For the bardic? Yeah, I got a runner-up.

Do I want to remember?

End already. :/
Chalcedony2010-07-16 19:24:32
Why is this taking so long.

Someone get it.

(Corruption month, please.)
Razenth2010-07-16 19:38:02
This about the revolt? It's only been an hour and a half, no?

Debating is hard.
Furien2010-07-16 20:20:15
Why is the Illuminati staying so obscenely high up on topguilds? I never expected so many old players wanting to alt over to it.
Razenth2010-07-16 20:23:12
Hour and a half ain't so bad Chalcedony. Ask some of the older players about 7 hour revolt horror stories.
