Should have traveled light, then! Since we're all about metaphors.
I feel like it's not that difficult to switch orgs unless you have the attitude of a douchebag (this does not mean 'has done douchey things', everyone's done those) where the way you talk or act makes people dislike you. Most people tend to give you the benefit of the doubt if you're at least cordial with them instead of being all 'lolololololol suckas noobs'. And even if you are a douchebag, the way this game works is that being able to fight tends to give you preferential treatment anyway, so that's a bonus.
I like alts, gives you a chance to experience another side to the game, but I've always felt that having one character who you've shared both good and bad times with is infinitely more valuable than creating a new character when you feel like you're down and want to 'reset'.

If I wanted to take an old character and make them a drunken dwarf whose RP is deeply rooted in being a dwarf, that doesn't work very well, and makes the RP a whole lot less solid, in my opinion.
Daraius2010-07-24 22:57:18
The Tahtetso probably think Daraius is an alt.

Sylandra2010-07-24 23:28:33
I will not make an alt until I use my only alt more. I will not, I will not, I will not--but Magnagora looks so shiny!

If your alt is going to be your main, why not just move your main. That's my problem with alts.
History and reputation follow your main everywhere. Also the ability to just play in a different style like going from the strict intelligent person to a snuggly half witted dummy.

Except I know you're not?

EDIT: I've only got one alt in Lusternia (and I'm done rolling more), and I have no idea if anyone in the Serenwilde or Serenguard knows that it's me. I can't pull off the "innocent new newbie" act anymore, so it's usually clear that my characters are someone's alt.

If I want a drastic change of pace, I'll go roll an alt in Imperian or Aetolia instead of another one here. The playerbase is different, barring the few other people who play multiple IRE muds, and the characters and world are different. I sometimes can't help carrying over certain attitudes towards characters in Lusternia, but I don't have that problem in Imp/Aet.

So I decided to try my hand at bashing for the first time ever (other than at the Newton Caverns), and I was almost killed by crabs in the Toronada tidepools.
I'm level 54.
Why.

You know what's sad is I make newbie mistakes on my alt, totally on accident, and it just works because "oh hey she's new." Except I'm not and I facepalm every time.

I don't really understand what the problem is with alts. Sometimes it's not even about "resetting," and starting over. Rather a different experience once in a while. Playing the same character all the time can get a bit stale. For example, I started playing in Serenwilde, and loved it. Magnagora is a completely different experience to play, and it's fun to play that once in a while too. Not because I was "done" with Seren (or Gaudi now, whatevs), but one day I may feel like playing Mag, the next Glom, and eventually I'll come back and play my main again. She's just my "main" because I have the most history and skills with her though, sometimes I end up playing my "alts" more anyway, but that doesn't mean I want to move my main to do play there.
They're different experiences, I can play in entirely different ways than I can on Riluna, and why should I have to move her around to do enjoy the game that way?

I think it's fine to have alts, but I can't imagine splitting my time between more than one character. There's just so much to do above and beyond bashing, influencing and typical org busywork: Quests, writing plays, writing books, reading other people's books, designing items, building an aethermanse, exploring (and stopping to read each desc occasionally), learning combat, participating in politics, managing a shop, mentoring new players, special events, contests, role-playing opportunities....
For me, there's so much to do with one character, I can't imagine playing more than one. There's always something new to do on the one I already have. (Again, I'm not saying you shouldn't have alts.)

Let's get off the topic of alts, hm?

Dammit, late as always, and Eventru gets in there before I can put in my two sovereigns.

People who are convinced they're right, and twist logic in order to make themselves feel better. Bleh.

I like to think that lame tactics can't get lamer, but the more this one is used, the more I think that we allow anything nowadays. I'd rather go back to the days when you could steal things from people, at least that involved work.
Rika2010-07-25 03:55:40
This:
2010/07/25 03:53:18 - Rika declared Sahmiam to be a formal enemy. Reason: Raiding Air plane.
Followed by this:
Sahmiam tells you, "I deserve it, but the fact that I didn't have it prevented me from going in the past."
So typical.

Well, out with it. What did Krellan do?
