Only recently have I learned about the "Library Info <#>" command to recall Divine feedback on books submitted for prestige review. In haste, I ran to the org's library to info my one and only (and early) publication and found such:
CODE
Origins of the Nekotai written by Mother Janalon Llaewell, Devotee of Scorpion
    and edited by Amani.
Published as a scholarly book on 25th of Roarkian, 237 CE (1st edition) by The
    Wyrden Archives.
    Access Level: Public
There are 1/1 copies available for checkout.
It will cost 0 gold to checkout this book.
It is stored at the annex: Annex of Wyrden Scriptures
    Word Count: 1601 (weighted: 5)
This book contains the following subjects:
    GRANDMOTHERSCORPION ILLITHOID NEKOTAI LADYTZARAZIKO GLOMDORING
    Comment by a Divine Scholar:
In the future, this scholar suggests exploring other published
works that touch the topic - a mention of the inquisition imposed by
the Holy Celestine Empires, from the History of the Paladins (written
by Catarin Inalai and published by the L.H.S.), would not have been
misplaced. Secondly, given the origination of the word 'nekotai' (it
is a fae word relating to crow) it is terribly presumptuous to
believe that the monks beholden to Spirit Scorpion were named such -
especially given her lack of relations with, well, anyone - beyond
this, the illithoid were, at the time of their discovery, a newly
born race. Several passages suggest this to be not true - notably,
the author refers to the 'traditional' jakari, as well as intimates a
large amount of time had passed between the agreement between the
nekotai and the illithoid's discovery. Frankly, given the nature of
the conflict that lead to the discovery of the undervault, one would
not be out of place to believe the illithoid did not in fact have
contact with the scorpion cult until after the tumor landed on the
Southern Highway. For an alleged 'scholarly work' this is poorly
researched, your facts are bassackwards and, frankly, this reads more
like a fictitious variation of what happened in a Gaudiguchian
brothel. Not even a revisionist historian from Glomdoring caught up
in an okorushi-induced high could pass this for 'history' -
nonetheless a potential prestigious compilation. That said, allow us
to state that it was a pleasant read, despite the factual errors -
unfortunately, it was not submitted for the literary notation.

My first reaction was that of shock, especially in the seemingly demeaning attitude of the review. Not sure if this approach to feedback is typical of all Divine Scholars. Then again, I reminded myself that this is only a game. I understand that personalities are abundant in the portrayal of our divine... They emulate a characteristic that is reflective of their org's disposition, their past history, etc. Though... even for a game this quip seems very unprofessional.
That aside, I was wondering more about the "factual" claims of this scholar. Most of my research came directly from the mouth of Wise Lady with very little embellishment. Other passages were supported from either logs or the announce or events newsboards (which I scoured). I wholeheartedly believe some of my presented facts to go against the response of this scholar.
For example, speaking the word "Nekotai" to the Wise Lady of Scorpion Caverns produces this monologue:
CODE
    You say, "Nekotai."
Wise Lady, Voice of the Grandmother says, "Some of Grandmother's faithful have
been entrusted with the fighting arts of Her children. This great Gift we call
    Nekotai."
Wise Lady, Voice of the Grandmother says, "We have heard of the Nekotai of
Glomdoring, who took our sacred name for the Gift of the Grandmother, having
learnt from the illithoids that Gift, which we once taught to the illithoid in
exchange for their psionic shield that guarded us from harm."
Wise Lady, Voice of the Grandmother says, "But the true Nekotai are of the
chosen of the Grandmother, and none will know it's deepest secrets without
    regard for Her."

This would suggest that either I am wrong, the scholar is wrong, or there are inconsistencies in the in-game histories as experienced through NPC's. Though, the outdated HELP NEKOTAI has this to offer:
CODE
The pact between Glomdoring and the Illithoid of the Undervault
culminated in the formation of the insidious Cult of the Nekotai in the
year 204CE. Upon being raised as the Avatar of Illith by Kaervas
d'Murani, Great Cthoglogg pledged the aid of the Illithoid in teaching
their ancient arts to their newfound allies. Named after a fae word
meaning "bringer of sorrow", the Nekotai study under the watchful
guidance of Madam Yoraghu.

What are the contemporary origins of the word Nekotai? Lady Wise would suggest the "sacred name" originates for the Scorpion Style of combat gifted from Grandmother Scorpion. However, the Divine Scholar would have me believe otherwise.
Can anyone provide guidance in this matter of professionalism and etymology?
Noola2010-05-25 03:53:32
Wow... that Divine Scholar was really kinda inappropriately harsh there...
Kalaneya2010-05-25 04:05:25
My displeasure for this particular reviewer has already been made clear to everyone in Glom who heard me do some epic mistelling.
Razenth2010-05-25 04:06:38
He/She was hilarious. All scholars should be like that.
Saran2010-05-25 05:23:44
Yeah... I kinda agree with the reviewer... also I lol'ed
Noola2010-05-25 05:35:32
I really don't think it's funny, honestly. I think it's mean. I think it was purposefully written to be mean-spirited and any useful critiquing is completely buried by the sheer, unmitigated meanness of it. I think that if it had been my work, I'd be really upset over it. 'Bassackwards'? Really? That's a useful critique? I'd thought the divine scholars were meant to be impartial and professional too. Apparently not though.
ongaku2010-05-25 05:40:10
Never mind. I don't want to get in trouble for talking down about admins.
Felicia2010-05-25 05:53:35
Amusing or no, that critique is severely lacking in both professionalism and impartiality. Genuine literati avoid uncalled-for sarcasm and colloquial insults, lest they discredit their own opinions.
ongaku2010-05-25 05:55:06
I will say that part of the reason I don't write anything that has anything to do with Lusternian lore is basically for this reason. I don't want to get called out and get told "You're wrong wrong wrong WRONG!"

I wouldn't mind my mistakes being pointed out to me, though I would wish there could be an official way to challenge a ruling. I think Janalon's got a good point with the Wise Lady's words there.
It's the rudeness in that review that makes me mad. There is absolutely no reason for it and it seriously makes anything constructive completely obsolete.

I saw this months ago, and decided that scholarly works as a whole just aren't worth my time. Or anyone's time, really.
It's one thing to ask research, and it's another thing to dangle your personal favorite work over someone's head going "neener neener." The thing about writing in this game, both from an IC perspective and usually an OOC one, is that we don't have a lot of the answers. And frankly, this one's frigging obscure... it's a book from Celest, about the Paladins, and the only distinction this one book has to separate it from any other book is that it has a place alongside the Taint Wars documents in the library on Mount Avechna, which you would only know if you went to the library on Mount Avechna, instead of just assuming that your city/commune's great library will do the job like most sane people do.
Whoops, sorry! You didn't find the super-secret bonus text! Your work's a piece of crap!
Yeah, well you too.

Wow, wtf? Way to not write a review.

...move along.

I have a feeling that Eventru will probably show up soon(ish) and tell us to e-mail our concerns about the administration to support@lusternia.com.
Just sayin'. :/ Sorry about what happened, in-game sis.

I get that impression too, looking at the first post, and he'd be right - if you think the Divine scholar in question is being rude, unprofessional, etc., that's probably the best way to pursue that line of thought, not the forums.
But I will leave the thread open because of the etymology thing.

*does not write anything scholarly, ever*
*is glad of this*

Well, that wasn't me. I forgot to vote this round.
The 'divine scholar' role is open to a little bit of roleplay, possibly but not this much. This was obviously intended to be an amusing rather than offensive review and we whole-heartedly apologise for any offence. We'll discuss this amongst ourselves.
If you can keep the topic on the subject of whether the divine scholar was right on the question of 'nekotai' and hold up on any administrative criticisms, I don't see why this thread shouldn't stay open.

Good to know. Thanks for the input, Fain.
On that note, I know very little about the Nekotai, so I'm gonna duck out! <.< >.> I will say this though, the lore and origins do sound kind of on the inconsistent side.
