Currently faeling, already got access to a manse forge, already interested in trying Knight, including Forging for Masterarmour. All I'd need that I wasn't already considering is the mallet.
The question is whether spending the time would be worth it, and that's a judgement/insanity call. Maybe forging the masterarmour will tell me if I've got the stomach for it.

Could just use powerstones. TADA!

Er, yeah. What I meant was, while I'm forging my masterarmour I could find out if forging still agrees with me. I haven't had a forger since the first year.

If you want to see if you can do it, try to forge something like the axe I used to use.

Just get something with 210 speed and turn on timestamps. Get someone to sit there while you attack them. Now, put up mantra akhang and attack them again. Look at the timestamps and decide if the difference is worth the time and expense. You'll probably find it isn't, but if you do decide you need the stats, forget about forging and buy runes instead.
Eldanien2010-05-07 02:29:47
It has nothing to do with the speed benefit and everything to do with my obsession with putting that much real money into a tahto that I don't think should have been runed.
Seriously, how much does Eldanien PK? I'm surely not doing this for the bashing benefits... I don't have a crit rune yet.

It probably doesn't matter much in your case then, but I'll go through this for others who are thinking of going for high stat kata weapons they intend to rune.
First of all, speed has dimishing returns whereas damage and precision do not. There is a noticable difference between 210 speed and 220. If you consider runing the staff (lets say +30/+30/+30) the respective speeds become 240 and 250. In my testing, I've found no measurable difference between staves at these speeds. This means that any points in speed that will get them above ~240 are essentially wasted.
As mentioned earlier, damage and wounding do not appear to have diminishing returns. Increasing the damage stat makes very little difference to your damage output. Precision increases your wounds, damage and chance to proc wound based afflictions so is in my opinion better for pvp.
If I were not intending to rune a weapon, I'd go for x/x/215 for hunting or pvp. If I were intending to rune the weapon, I'd go for base of 190/205/205. mine was 197/198/205 because I was impatient and didn't want to wait for the perfect damage/precision combination. With runes, buffs etc it is 237/268/245 which I think is pretty optimal.

My tahto only has 210 speed.
Eldanien2010-05-08 05:45:38
So Eldanien is now a forger with a mallet. Let the insanity begin.
Sylphas2010-05-08 05:56:19
I'm continually tempted to ask for a 230 speed tahto on market, just to see if I get someone to try making it. I don't think I could be cruel enough to actually do that to someone, though.
Eldanien2010-05-08 06:00:58
Why not. The odds of success are very similar.
Yes, I know.

Kelly2010-05-08 17:11:14
I have another 216 tahto, if anyone's interested.
Eldanien2010-05-10 02:12:15
Got a 190/200/210 forged, which I'll use as a fallback if I absolutely must. That one's still a bear to forge, but not nearly on the scale of the 190/190/220.
Tempering for kata weapons, please.

Race change, trans forging, artifact mallet, and 11652 forged tahtos later... kata tempering came out.
I don't know whether to weep for joy or what.

With the number of credits needed to buy a mallet, learn forging, buy a personal manse forge, buy powerstones, change race, etc. it sounds like you're better off buying a rune, waiting for tempering changes, praying for a bug or hell to freeze over. It'll probably come sooner than this million dollar/hour tahto!
Hehe, someone from above is looking out for you.
