I'm not seeing "numerous" suggestions here, at least not practical ones. Keeping spores handy was the most practical so far, and even that's a bit of a stretch.

This thread smells an awful lot like people who spend too much time on only one side of the combat fence.

If you're trying to repel attackers, something like greater pent can ruin a good day. There's a good chance you can do nothing about it. It's not like your entire commune logs on and decides not to be tools at the nexus every time a raid happens. Being ready to fight but unable to fight is straight dumb.

If you're throwing up a greater pent to try to accomplish something difficult and sensitive, you want it to work as advertised, except it doesn't. There are enough ways through it that you've probably been sniped out and feel like you just wasted 10p on something that someone basically just walked around. Not being able to trust your skills is straight dumb.

This is what I call "hoser balance," where a skill is very effective, but there are assorted tricks out there that hose the skill. It's poor balance by any measure, because both sides are right, both sides are annoyed, and both sides want something entirely different for the skill.

The only real way to fix it is to decide how effective you want greater pent to be, then make it that way for everyone.

I just think it's a lot of complaining. Shuyin has definitely given you guys a bunch of options in how to defend your own territory from GreaterPentagram. Yet, the only retorts I see against his solutions give me the feeling that Serenwilde does want to indeed lock down the entire village.

If by "lock down the entire village" you mean "make raiders liable to fight defenders," you'd be correct. Makes perfect sense to me. It's not like you need greater pent to kill guards faster.

I'd think an issue that people are forgetting is that if people are indeed not wanting to "lock down a village" but instead make the raiders actually fight defenders, Avenger will bite them in the butt for it.

Mind, I absolutely adore the Avenger system for its anti-griefing prevention, but what I'm gathering is that if people want to fight in villages, then lift the Avenger protection from villages.

That or make Conquest nations not incur the Avenger flag when fighting within villages so that we don't have like, Commercial nations joining into group fights without incurring their own penalties.

I'd be all for making Avenger ignore the village conflict, so long as the conflict stays in the village. One thing it "solves" now is people who poke into a village, kick, and then step outside a couple rooms.

Nienla (and others), stop trying to steer this in the wrong direction. It's about being defenders being locked out of a room, not attackers being locked out of a village. It's already known that we cannot support the needed number of guards, so they're likely just going away completely. (That should make you happy, I'm sure.)

Well, with that agreement then, it's basically been filtered down from "tweak Greater Pent" to "tweak pk-status in villages".

Go forth with the bloodletting, even if I doubt it'd get through.

I kind of feel like this is self explanatory.
